Concerned about IMS fix
Pending purchas 2004 Boxster S. Found out info on IMS etc.
This is is a semi continuation of my prior post. Looking for guidance please.
Was told IMS and clutch done by Porsche specialist but cost was $15k. Thought it sounded high just for that. Got the name of shop and called them to find out what was done. Was told IMS and clutch done, they found metal flakes in pan, also did rods, main bearing, oil pump, drive belts, clutch pilot bearing, flywheel plate and much more. I asked about cyl, pistons etc and said we’re ok. Said IMS bearing was loose and moving hence the flaking.
So after reading many posts and articles sounds like a catastrophic event with rebuild especially for $15k. I question whether to pass on this. Any help please.

Pass way to many fish in the sea to gamble on this one. Engine has to be be throughly cleaned before reassembly. No way to guarantee that now.

Post the name of the shop that did the work and someone may be able to comment on their reputation. Also info on what bearing was used as a replacement. Otherwise find another.
