Selling or not selling
Hello all. Just have to share this somewhat odd conversation with someone selling their Boxster. Saw a Boxster for sale in another state appearing to be in great shape. So after I was satisfied with getting further information and pictures I made a full price offer but wanted to get a PPI. No blow back at all with getting a PPI. Here is the odd part which is somewhat dumbfounding. So even with a full price offer without me seeing the car this was the response. "I want to wait until Saturday because two people are going to look at it too. Then if one of them wants it I'll let them talk to you". So I asked again that even though I am making a full price offer right now you want to wait until Saturday. The reply was yes. In all the years I have been buying cars I have never heard this story before. Just thought I'd share this humorous story.

He made an offer, you accepted with conditions. Did the ad say $10k or best offer? There was no prior discussion of what you would pay him to hold the car until the PPI? Did he ever say he accepted your offer? Do you still want the deal?

Ad had a figure. No OBO. Said I would pay full asking price. PPI for any major concerns. Ok by seller. Did not want $$$ to hold because she wanted to show it to 2 people Saturday. Said I am giving full offer now but still wanted to show it Saturday first then call me. She repeated she understood full offer. I want deal but many other P cars out there.

When I offer a car, motorcycle, machinery, something for sale my SOP is the first person who shows up with the money buys the item. I don't do waiting lists, deposits, etc.
OTOH, from a buyer's perspective I can appreciate your desire to be thorough and diligent in checking out a car. But you are I think facing some of the issues that can arise from trying to buy a car, I'm sure a nice car, too, from a distance.
See how things play out. Just keep in mind there is always another car so if this purchase falls through you'll find your car.

Ok. All input helpful. Appreciated.
Received call from seller shortly after first conversation. She is honoring my bid and car is mine.
Was told IMS and clutch done by Porsche specialist but cost was $15k. Thought it sounded high just for that. Got the name of shop and called them to find out what was done. Was told IMS and clutch done, they found metal flakes in pan, also did rods, main bearing, oil pump, drive belts, clutch pilot bearing, flywheel plate and much more. I asked about cyl, pistons etc and said we’re ok. Said IMS bearing was loose and moving hence the flaking.
So after reading many posts and articles sounds like a catastrophic event with rebuild especially for $15k. I question whether to pass on this. Any help please.

Not necessarily. You don't say what year or trim level. And no price. Is the car otherwise a decent deal? Does the shop seem competent? If the PPI reveals problems, you have the right to back out, but as the man said, an offer was made and accepted. If the car flunks a PPI, you have the right to back out, but backing out right now would be bad form. If the shop is on the up & up, look at it this way, the engine has been gone thru and is in good shape. Not a reason for worry & the IMS & seals have been done.

Well update. I wasn’t going to do anything until PPI was complete. I would never back out of commitment and agree, poor form. Well the PPI was done this morning. Even though IMS etc done 2 years ago, to the eye, metal flakes were found in the oil and layered on bottom of pan. That being said I passed on the car. Thanks for the input. Appreciated.
