Default Removing Rear Spoiler From Salvage Car

Hi. Anybody with experience removing the rear spoiler from a 99 Boxster with the engine removed? The guy I bought the part from is having difficulty figuring out how to remove the spoiler without any power to the car.

According to the maintenance manual, the spoiler needs to be raised in order to remove it. The 3 rivet pins which secure the painted "cap" of the spoiler need to be removed first - this appears to require the spoiler to be raised. If these can be accessed with the spoiler lowered, or you don't mind damaging/destroying the cap, you should be able to remove the spoiler with it lowered, as the rest of the removal process is done with the spoiler in the lowered position.

Thanks for the info. Pity. Damaging the cap would defeat the intended use. SPB.

Since we are taking salvage, could a battery be hooked up to the wiring that raises and lowers the wing just long enough to get it in the air? Would take some research and other parts removal but ...

With a battery and the ignition turned on, the spoiler can be raised by holding down the switch in the driver side foot-well, on the left side.

You will need it raised or you can go through the rear trunk wall but you will need to destroy or bend the trunk wall to reach the 3 plastic rivets; or maybe a small long punch or drill bit will fit in the crack. Alternatively, drill a small hole in the trim 2 inches from the rear light on each side to get at the bolts.

Take a look at photos of my '99. The top photo is with spoiler out and bumper skin off The middle photo shows where the bolt that holds the actuall spoiler to the arms that go up and down The bottom photo shows where the 3 plastic rivets go - I already punched them in at this point

Heh, I guess the middle photo shows where the 3 plastics rivets go. Photos got out of order. Best
