Potomac Region PCA Autocross #3
Visited the great folks in the Potomac Region and had a great time. Thing is, it's all fun and games until you blow through the stop box (as seen in this video). Looking forward to going there again.

This was an SCCA sanctioned event done at the behest of FT86 Club in conjunction with their national expo being held today in Manassas VA; basically, the ScionFRS/SubaruBRZ equivalent of a Porsche Parade autocross. It was sponsored by PTuning, who had their own cars there, and several drivers had some really impressive cars putting out more than 300hp (I heard claims of 400hp for one, but may have just been claims). We ran SCCA classes for reference when known (my 2010 Boxster S is in SS), but split the FT86s into Normally Aspirated and Forced Injection and ran by raw time at the request of the FT86 organizers. Surprisingly, my primary competition for FTD ended up being other local hotshoes- namely, an ASP 996 and a VERY well driven (national champ level) DS WRX. I think I had passengers on every run, too, lol.

Not the caliber of driving compared to most of the guys that post here but thought this was such a cool course layout that it was worth sharing. Rarely do we get to do an AutoX on a real road course - in this case the Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point. Thanks to PCA Potomac for the opportunity.

I beta tested it for a while; it had some issues that may have since been corrected, but it's fairly simple to use. Solo Storm has some really nice features (I REALLY like the run-comparison overlay for post-race analysis between codrivers) but I don't think it's worth $200. The video export is nice, but it takes a while to generate (KILLS the battery), and doesn't work all that great for between-run-reviews. I usually use ALapRecord, which is (IMHO) better for between-run reviews and only costs $6.

I love SoloStorm - been with it since beta. I am always learning something new with it, and Mike is always adding additional features. If you have a question, Mike is more than willing to provide help. I have to agree, battery usage is pretty high - GoPro wireless is pretty high too! If you're interested in video analysis between runs, I recommend operating at a lower resolution, but if you run with the higher res you can download the video later and just use the telemetry displays/map.

I just started using solostorm and have been really happy with it. Just the wifi camera control and automatic log starting have been a nice improvement over the old school DL1. Interesting data point - the PDK will stall the car during a spin as seen at the end of the run. Happened twice that day.

SCCA Solo in Ohio
Took the old 88 911 Carrera Cab to the local SCCA Solo event. My co-driver (son Alex) took 3rd in PAX, 6th in Raw time and 1st in C Street. I managed 6th in PAX, 9th in Raw time and 2nd in C Street. There were 49 drivers. All in all a pretty good outing. We beat a lot of cars that should have been quicker.

Small lot Sunday made for a lot of 1st gear, but I like the "passenger seat" camera angle I tried out. Skip to 1:32 for one of my normal angles (the exhaust sound cam.)
After taking some heavy beatings all year at big time SCCA events, was nice to be the 5th fastest car overall, 3rd fastest on street tires.
