If you want somebody to actually listen to the auto-x videos, get a camera with an external mic jack so you can put the external mic out of the wind.

Everytime I try to watch a video of camera with the mic in the wind, I immediately stop watching. It's nails on a chalkboard to me.

I use an Aiptek HD 720 with an external mic jack and an $8 external mic with a foam cover. Total cost $128

Our first batch of Replay-XD cameras will be here on Friday if anyone is interested. Not HD but the smalles bullet camera I've seen so far.

[QUOTE=ApexPerformance;7768179]GoPro does not include the card but we are running a special where you get a 4 gb card with the camera.

How many hours does the 4 gb sd card give you?

Recording time will vary according to the resolution setting used and the card capacity. A 2gb card will record approx 56 minutes so I assume a 4gb would double. When we use them, we are usually recording 20-30 minute sessions at a time, not hours on end.

I bought one of these a few months ago for my race car and love it. It has a great picture, remote, an actual screen you can see and will hold a 32gig sd card for about 21/2 hours of recording. Oh yeah and its only like $150.

If you want one camera to do it all get a 'normal' family HD handycam with solid state drive (flash memory not hard drive or DVD) then just get a mount for it. You could use a special suction cup or roll bar mount but I got great and stable video from securing a tripod in the back of the Turbo with the seatbelts plus a bicycle stretchy running down under the front seats. You'd need a tripod with adjustable legs so the leg between the rear seats can be shortened to suit. Gives a perfect wide view out the windscreen and includes the steering wheel so really puts the viewer in the car and was rock stable for an autocross-like bent slalom and a skidpad run in the Turbo.

Try ChaseCam. Randy makes a pretty darn good product. He understands what car people need whether autocrossing or road racing.

Late entry to this thread, and another thumbs up for the Go-Pro. Great little camera. I had trid to use my Sony camcorder to record autocross and tracking but found it failed every time, but worked great for normal out of the car recording. The reason was simple, the lateral "G's" that the car undergoes in all motor sport events is enough to cause the internal hard drive ( yes the Sony has a hard drive as a media storage device) to slow down and the camera would default to a safe non recording mode. So in came the Go-Pro and I'm happy and getting excellent video. I use a roll bar mount from RANs.
