Default A little help?

Hi all - just a quick query... here is a copy of a post i made a while back...

Just to set the scene: please dont kick of about my driving...

" Quick Driving.
Right i dont know what to do about this.

I get in my car, i love it. the sound, the smell, the power.

BUT

i love fast street driving. Not like, how do i describe it, not raggin it around at breakneck speed, just making good progress, bursts of power and short gear changes, flicinkg around corners, never really getting above 40-50 i suppose where the road permits. small slidy islands, 100 yards, right flick around a bend power change power change hard brake, bend etc etc

I've been a bit of a chav recently and gone to see some street racing, admittedly its dual carraige way stuff, and i just watch cus thats boring.

when the cops show everyone bombs off and generally hits the industrial estates where when its dry i will happily hand chavs asses to them. but recently its getting stupid. some can drive, but some are dangerous so i stopped. few weeks back a skyline binned it on a dual, took out a lampost and three cars. Not good.

I dont condone it in anyway it is very dangerous and stupid, i only occasionally do the quiet industrial estate stuff, but usually on my own just because i love the way my car handles.

there must be a similar event, i think its why i loved curborough so much, proper on the limit handling, nothing high speed just on the edge stuff. I was quicker than quite a few gt3's and 996's etc purely becuase my car is set up so well.

I just dont know how to get my fix

does this make sense to anyone?

I seriously need to rampage a deserted town."

Having watched some autocross footage from this forum, i think that its what i'm after... my question is - how is your geometry different to that of a say, track car? does anyone have any geo figures they will share? by pm if necessary - also how streetable is it?

just trying to find a happy medium between track work and sprints/autocross...

any thoughts?

Hi. Don't start worrying about suspension setup (race vs. autocross) yet.
Just start going to events, and depending on how your car reacts, we
can consider changes. Until you get consistent within a few tenths of
a second between 3 runs on a given course you should spend most of
your time tightening the nut that holds on to the steering wheel.

i see your point, but it doesnt really help.

My car is setup for track - i just wanted to know what i would need to change to suit.

If you are saying the settings are similar, then what you say carries weight, and I agree with the outlook, but if its totally not suited i'd rather change it before i give it a go.

So how does your car behave at turn-in, middle and exit of a corner? Typically
the ultimate autocross alignment will want even more aggressive camber and
want a looser rear than is practical for track braking or safe for high-speed
corners, but if you have a decent track setup you'll definitely be in the ball
park, and much happier than a typical street setup.

great!

so what i'll do is i'll adjust the dampers to what you recommend and give it a whirl when its a bit warmer - then take it from there when i have a few events to report back from!

thanks!

I'd much rather take a car set up for the track to an auto-x than a stock street car. You are way ahead of the game with your current set up. Go tear it up!
