14th place . . . . over 4 seconds slower than the fastest time (Boxster).

Mike Furnish took TTOD by almost 1 sec. in an NS Boxster?!?!?! Where were the fast guys?
I don't think he has ever placed higher than 12th down here in SDR.

What was the course like?

Maybe the 'fast guys' were asleep behind the wheel (lol).

I'm not really qualified to comment on the course since I'm a novice at this. I seemed to me that it was a fairly tight course w/ a series of random esses on both sides of a non-symetrical sweeping left-to-right turn at the mid point.

So a typical Camarillo airport course--up and back on the runway, with some squiggles thrown in the middle? When I ran the Zone 8 series for a few years, I skipped that event because it wasn't very interesting. I notice that over half the entries were "X" class. Without them, SBR would probably lose money on it.

I don't see a single Modified-class car in the results, and only 3 Improved-class cars. That's why Mike could win TTOD. He's a good driver, I've known him for years, but if Bob Bertrand had showed up, or Steve Lutz (someone told me he moved back east or something?), his stock Boxster S would not have had a chance.

If you're a novice, try one of the OCR events at El Toro, or come down to San Diego for one. There will be good instruction and more interesting courses. Better yet, sign up for the next Performance Driving School down here Nov. 16-18th. It's the best money you could spend on your car.

TT

Tom,

You described the Camarillo layout perfectly.

I will be running at El Toro next month (10/21) w/ the Orange Coast Region. I recently transferred my PCA 'alliance' from the LA Region to the OCR. I'll be one of the most senior (in age) but still enjoying a good ride.

Hope to meet up w/ you there if you plan on attending.

Arnie

ps. I was at the AX event at Qualcomm during the recent Porsche Parade. As a matter of fact I did the Michelin Tire Test on the other side of the parking lot a few times. That is what got me back into AX. I used to 'campaign' a 1961 Corvair Monza in the early 60's. Got away from it when I got married and we started raising family.

Try to get a ride with Steve Eguina in his GT2 if you want to see what the modern Porsches can do on an autox course. Or ride with David Palmquist in his FI 911 for a glimpse of what is possible with the older cars.

From a Corvair to a 997S?!?! That's quite a change. The engine is still in the same place, though....

I agree. I was at the last El Toro AutoX and the track layout was much more dynamic. They do have a lot more room to play with though.
