The radio reception in my 2003 Porsche C2 is horrendous. I can barely get any AM stations at all, and they have lots of static. I like to listen to talk radio during long drives, so I'd really like to improve the reception.
As far as I can tell from extensive internet research, there is no way to add an antenna that increases AM reception. I am thinking of putting in a whole new double-DIN receiver with all the toys so that I can add I=pod capability, GPS, phone., etc). Will that improve the reception? Also, can you guys tell me roughly what to expect cost-wise (receiver plus installation) ? Thank you in advance.

I assume your FM is good?
Also Am is more susceptible to topographical interference. ie: mountains etc.
The antenna is in the glass so options are limited. An aftermarket radio may be an improvement but could
be better with a different antenna.
Problem is that obviously a whip antenna is out of the question. A rubber duckie maybe but I would think you best bet might be XM.

Thanks for the reply. My FM reception is "marginal". Plenty of stations come in, but I have to keep switching stations to keep findings ones with no static.
Yeah, I was thinking about getting XM/Sirius. But, I mainly listen to KFI in Los Angeles With satellite radio, I don't think I can tune is to a specific station... just specific shows that are on the subscription plan.

Get a headunit with bluetooth capability then you can stream your iPhone or Android to it. Get the iHeart radio app then stream it direct to the head unit.
KFI is available on iHeart.
Digital quality available enywhere.

My daughter just graduated from the same college he went to (Whittier). [Whittier's other most "famous" graduate was Richard Nixon].
Yep also to the bluetooth head unit. That's what I did, so I have been streaming KFI via iHeart Radio. Works fantastic, but is a bit more of a pain than just being able to turn on the radio. Also, I am a channel hopper.... As soon as ads come on, I'm generally off to another channel. This is tough via iHeart if I am in traffic, since it takes fiddling with the phone.
the fm amplifier is in the A pillar
