Default 968 replacement speaker recommendation needed

So, I'm noticing that after almost 20 years the speakers on my 968s are starting to disintegrate. Both my 968s have the hi-fi sound speaker option with 8 speakers in the cab and 10 in the coupe. I do prefer going stock with my fixes but if you were me, do you think speaker technology has changed enough so that you would replace the EOM speakers with aftermarket? If so, where would you shop? Crutchfield? I would only be looking to replace speakers with the same size speakers. i do not want to cut anything other then the wire splices. Thanks for the thoughts.

I think you can still get OEM and thats what I would suggest due to the odd size of midrange. However you could certainly go better tweeter and midwoofer. I would seek out a specialist as you dont want a largely untrained person butchering your car. They will have access to much higher quality speakers than a chainstore. The speakers are the most important part of any system, so don't buy the cheapest option. Your ears will thank you for spending a bit extra
