That's my point... you can get mp3s that are the same size as the CD.

Same size? Then it's not an MP3 anymore, is it?

I would. Digital Compression is to today what 8-tracks and 6x9 oval 3 Way speakers were to the 1970's sound quality....

mp3 is just a format.... Like word files are .doc

It has nothing to do with the size of it.....

Point is, vinyl FTW (And you don't have to be an audiophile to notice)

There are plenty of ads for CD decks costing $$$$ bragging that they "sound more like vinyl". There are exactly zero ads for turntables in any price range bragging that they sound like CDs.

Just got back from Waterloo in Austin, which is one of the few real record stores around. Hadn't been there for several years. It was a treat!

That would be because you can add effects (noise) to CD audio to make it sound like vinyl, but you can't remove the inherent noise in Vinyl to make it sound like CD.

That's contrary to what I know. Correct me if I'm worng but, isn't it a compression method that removes parts that a human ear can't hear and compresses the rest.

I think, like jpeg is to pictures, it is a compression method but the compression can vary from none to a lot, quality suffering not at all for no compression to a lot for a lot of compression.

Right.... Which is the problem we're talking about here.

Digital music (cd, mp3, whatever) will always be bits and pieces of music. 1s and 0s. You have make as many 1s and 0s as you want, but no matter what, its always just pieces of music. (Obviously, the more pieces, the higher resolution the song is).

Where vinyl is the actual music. Its analog. 1 continuous stream of sound.

I'm sure you could get an extremely lifelike rendering on CD (It would be a HUGE file), but no matter what, its broken up into pieces.

And noise, don't forget the noise.

I'ts amazing the people that miss the sound in the 3megahertz range on digital music, but can hear all the noise on a record.
