Jeff, give me your thoughts......I currently have a SIM2 HT300-E Link 720P projector I bought new in October 2004. On Blu-Ray it looks really good but when I watch HD football or racing it does not have the brightness and color punch that my Pioneer Elite ISF'd plasma has. Sports on the plasma just looks more real and natural. My projector was ISF'd and it seemed really really dark and dim....so I;ve done what I could with in reason to birghten it up a tad. Again blu-ray movies look really good but DirecTv is not as good especially sports.

I know there are much better projectors out now for less money. I recently viewed a nice high end JVC projector 1080P for around $7k and really liked it and I seen some awesome 3 chip 1080p for what I paid for my Sim2 back in 2004. Arrrrgh!.....LOL.

With all this 3D stuff coming to market and it seems like projectors are going to LED over bulbs should I just hold off for another year or so and see what happens?

Default What screen are you using & how big?

How big is your current screen & what is the gain? A
smaller screen or a screen with higher gain could help.
This is from the "screens" section from the
AVS forum. It's a good read.

Another factor is the age of the bulb, they get dimmer with age.

Are both being feed the same signal mike? Your antenna will give a better HD picture than cable / satellite ..

It's hard to beat a tweeked Pioneer Elite Plasma....
Regarding your SIM2....
If it looks good with bluray, but not your other source (CATV? SAT/DISH?)...I would examine the the "other" source. Are they both connected in the same way? Does your SIM2 have seperate setting for each input? How many hours on the lamp? Whats the gain on your screen.
The confusing part is it looks fine on bluray.
Usually SIM2 is one of the best available.
And yes, the projectors keep getting better and cheaper. I "donated" my $20K CRT porjector when I switched to DLP....I did get a small tax write-off....but "OUCH."
I have a 3-chip 1080P SIM2 with an anomorphic lens on a 2.40 StewartFilmscreen curved screen in my showroom....It's the best I've seen.

Default Part 2 to MDRUMS...

I can't say when to pull the trigger. Technology keeps on moving ahead.
I don't think LED projectors or 3D is ready for prime time as of yet.
What we're seeing is first generation devices with "gotta be first on your block" pricing.
