Question Headphone fans

Yes, I know headphones are typically not well respected in audiophile circles, but I was wondering if there are any fans here?

I was hooked on them since I first listened to pair of electrostatics when I was a kid.
It is interesting how designers work with the relatively fixed acoustics that headphones provide.

I got a set of Stax headphones way back in 1978, headphones and Stax headphone amp that you wire into a speaker R and L channels. They are open ear phone and still to this day sound very real and natural with acoustic instruments. They are not really all that great with any type of electronic music...Rock, heavy metal or electric jazz as they really lack impact.

I still have these Stax and they look like new to this day. Excellent build quality. I never ever listen to them so does anyone know what they are worht and a good place to sell something like these phones?

I travel a lot and bought a cheap pair of Klipsch earphones...$120. they sound actually really good but hurt my ear canals after about an hour of use. I want to find a nice set of closed over the ear headphones for travel. I was at the Apple Store and listend to some B&W $300, Sennheisers $300 and those Dr. Dre Beat things for $399. I think I can find better bang for the buck....any suggestions?

There are a few for sale on Audiogon right now. They all appear to be electrostatic, don't know which you have. Check them out.

Stax electrostatic earspeakers are hard to beat, but not very portable.
The new B&W and the top end Senheissers are the best "on ear" 'phones...
There are some great "in ear" 'phones from Shure and others.....

We just auctioned off a set of these at our local PCA charity auction.

Even through an Iphone they sounded quite good.

Need some phones for travel and to demo a new high end digital recording product....so accurate sound quality is important. I do have a budget of around 200-300. I have not had a chance to listen to much since most phones are packaged and not displayed. Only ones ive listened to are at the Apple Store and Best Buy. Seems like only phones on display are Dr Dre Beats. These seem afewful bloated in the bass and colored everywhere. Being a drummer I love impact and deep bass but it has to be tight and detailed.

I alsomlistened to the B&W P5 phones and they seem nice but I'd love to get some accurate opinions and advice.

I understand the advantages of in ear speakers, but I have never been able to wear them....very uncomfortable with anything in my ear.

I am an on ear or over ear headset type of person.

Lewis if you get custom made in ears they are extremely comfortable. Over the counter in ears I agree can be uncomfortable and a lot of them sound weird.
