Default A project I've cosidered

I have been thumbing thru the Madisound webpage(https://www.madisound.com/index.php) and I would like to build a set of speakers. I handcraft furniture for a living and have lots of capability and materials for such an endeavor.
My question is: what is a good, albeit modest, driver selection? and given that, what is a favorable material choice? I have LOTS of solid hardwoods, but my limited knowledge tells me this is not optimal for a cabinet, at least a MDF with a laminate could be a sonically better choice. Would an equal thickness layer of MDF and...say Maple achieve favorable results?
I think a smallish set of two way "bookshelfs" would be my prototype here with the idea that modest equipment would be their source; primarily my Adcom preamp/amp.
Thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance and all the best to each of you in 2011.

Hello,

I would need more input in order to start making suggestions.

1. what kind of budget for the drivers and components
2. What type of expectation, reference listening , background music
3. What type of music ?

Hardwood can be used the tone is different from MDF not necessarily better..

Wayne, about #3...I believe that a great speaker will reproduce all types of music accurately.

agree mike , he wants to build a project speaker, there will be compromises, knowing his requirements and taste will make it easier to select drivers.
