My fondness for the Rolling Stones evolved out of boredom with Beach Boys music as a sophomore in high school.

I get Dylan, but don't like Dylan. I don't get Grateful Dead and like them even less.

Miles Davis I can listen to, but enjoy jazz music from Gerry Mulligan.

Bach is better than Beethoven. Mozart is their equal.

I like opera and Chanticleer.

Hope none of that comes across as pretentious.

I'll take it all in small increments
stones AND eagles, plus some parsons and burrito bros., and the even stone ponies w/linda

miles AND stan, but some astrud never fails to satisfy

getz has some good stuff, but hard to compare anything he's done with brubeck/take 5 or miles/kind of blue...

I might seriously listen 6-8 hours a week, hard to make time...
so if I listen in 1 album blocks, thats ~10 artists...out of 100's, never gets repeticious

I'm with you on Mulligan, Brubeck , Getz, et al is right up my alley , Miles is over my head i guess, could never get into his stuff. Bach and Mozart for sure although i do tend to prefer the Russian composers, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky for eg.

I'm still upset with you for selling.

Been working through Davis's Columbia years 55 to 85 this afternoon and I decided most of what I enjoy best comes from Kind of Blue now working on Oscar Peterson Trio.

I like the sax better.

Listen, get any Jazz mixed by Rudy van Gelder in the late 50's and early 60's .. the best , for music and sound , well worth the money they command today on vinyl...

For those going , Huh? ..

I agree. Turrentine worked with Van Gelder out of the Englewood Cliffs Studio which is a few miles from my house. His ability to almost climb inside the instrument with the microphone was outstanding.

We used to have the best jazz clubs around here and occasionally some of the greats would show up for a little jam session. I was lucky enough to sneak in on Turrentine with Hancock & Cranshaw for a perfect evening. Those were great days.

I found the article interesting especially about how Mingus would not work with him because he felt he altered the sound.
