Replacing PCM3.1 with Erisin Android head unit DIY
#16
Thanks for the post. Head unit was indeed an easy plug and play install. It should be noted the OEM head unit is secured with four T25 torx screws. Nice responsive touchscreen, clean Android 12 build with a plethora of features and no bloat. Can't confirm on the steering wheel controls as I have a stripper 981CS but there is an option menu for it, so I assume it's supported.
While I want to love this thing, it exacerbated an issue I was having with my PCM unit where there is a constant hissing / static interference sound that's quite audible even at zero volume and much louder at just 2-3 volume. Makes this device unusable for me, as I mainly wanted Apple CarPlay functionality for music and navigation.
Anyone else have this issue? I'm probably going to put the OEM unit back in just because the hissing/static was quieter (still audible, but more bearable).

Something is wrong with your particular unit or setup or hookup.
My unit, and all other feedback I saw - is night and day audio difference for the best, compared to base PCM. And no hissing of any sort.

How is it holding up?
I'm considering this one for my 2015 GTS with Bose.

Do you lose any of the OEM functions? I assume the NAV is gone from the dash (right circle) display, which is fine, but is anything else lost? Trip counters or anything else like that?

Yes, of course the Nav will be gone from the dash. Nothing else. The only thing I noticed - I can't seem to find how to adjust digital part of the dash cluster at night. The rotating **** on a dash can adjust the background and tach numbers, but the digital part seem to be on full brightness and I can't find a way to adjust that. Bothered me for a while , but than I got used to it

I installed my Head Unit (HU) yesterday. Pretty straightforward. I do want to look into an adapter to be able to use the OEM mic one day. I have two questions:
How do I change the temp to display in F vs C?
And most importantly, backup camera is not working. Here's what's going on:
When I put the car in R (manual) I get power out which turns on the camera's LED lights, but as for video, nothing happens. Specifically, the HU doesn't change. It's not like the HU changes to the backup cam and there's no picture, Rather, the HU doesn't seem to do anything when I'm reverse (yet the backup camera power wire does switch on.)
Thoughts?
This is my backup camera.

My 981 S gets delivered tomorrow, I'll be getting one of these too shortly. I used one of the other work around in my 970 (opening the radio etc) and never liked the resolution or response of the old touch screen, so this just seems like a logical way to go.
