Anyone else looking for an unusual color?

Always kinda liked green, but probably not enough to buy. Before I got my '09 TT, I had planned to order a '10 GT3 and do PTS in Signal Red (a 356 color, which I had also planned to paint my 356). Ended up deciding to go TT (needed back seats for the kids, and maybe too impatient to wait for a custom build).
I spent a huge amount of time pondering color. Finally decided on black - kinda nothing like it and more classy (if you keep it clean and shiny). Dealer had two, one black (my choice), and one Basalt. Black didn't have Adaptive Sport Seats, Basalt did. Basalt was basically the perfect build (Adaptives, short shifter, limited slip, thicker steering wheel, PCCB's, and a few more items), and went for it, and still happy.
My next door neighbor has a Benz (2016?) in a very dark metallic green, almost looks black in some light, but it's a really nice color. Check it out, do a PTS, and hide the receipts from your wife!
I still hope on one last go around at my old age to do a PTS (and Euro delivery) as my last hurrah, til then never letting my '09 go.

It's not the owners, per se, it's the dealers. They spec cars in colors that are easiest to sell. I had an interesting discussion with one local dealer's inventory manager about this very topic -- their inventory is ridiculously overweight on the color black (and, to a lesser degree, silver and whites) because they're easiest to sell.

I owned a Dark Teal Metallic 2003 C4S Cab. Nicest color car I've ever owned.
On the other hand, for the love of God I've never understood why color was so important to certain people.

Why buy 996 or a 997 or a 964 or a 993.
You want what you want. If we were all the same it would be really really boring...
Still waiting for a pic of that malachite one. If it's natural grey leather pm me. I'm on vacation, I've had rum and I may do something stupid...

I've usually gone for pretty standard colours, as mainly that's all that's usually available.
However, this time...
It's Amethyst and was a 'Special Exterior Colour' (i.e. optional but in the brochure - not 'paint to sample') from about Sep 2010 on the 997.2TT.

So hearken ye to my tale of woe...
I have this thing for green Porsches.
I want a lower mileage 997TT coupe 6MT in Olive. Or a PTS dark green. I've been looking for one for almost 2 years now.
In that time the only one I've seen is the one that started for sale in Ohio, and went back for sale in NC a year later with 15k more on the clock.
It had some carfax issues that made me not want it first go round. Repo and electrics. It was cheap the second go round at a 62k ask, but the mileage was over 50k and the carfax was still the same.
I get that I'm chasing a unicorn. I'm probably never going to find one and I'll either have to settle for the (green) 996 I have, sell a kidney and buy a new PTS (Irish green a la millionth car) and hope my wife never sees the invoice or *gulp* settle for a different color.

Unusual colors are hard to find. I love green cars, but I bought a 997.1 TT in Macadamia Brown. Based on VIN analysis, it appears that less than 10 were sold in the US. I did the same thing with my 991.1 TTS. It's Mahogany Brown, which is equally rare. I'd love to own a green 911....
