Default Anyone else looking for an unusual color?

So hearken ye to my tale of woe...

I have this thing for green Porsches.
I want a lower mileage 997TT coupe 6MT in Olive. Or a PTS dark green. I've been looking for one for almost 2 years now.

In that time the only one I've seen is the one that started for sale in Ohio, and went back for sale in NC a year later with 15k more on the clock.

It had some carfax issues that made me not want it first go round. Repo and electrics. It was cheap the second go round at a 62k ask, but the mileage was over 50k and the carfax was still the same.

I get that I'm chasing a unicorn. I'm probably never going to find one and I'll either have to settle for the (green) 996 I have, sell a kidney and buy a new PTS (Irish green a la millionth car) and hope my wife never sees the invoice or *gulp* settle for a different color.

So after that overlong preamble here's my question.

I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same - looking for a unicorn color - or if I'm the only one that thinks silver is kinda boring?

I almost bought that dark olive 997.1 TT when it was in St. Louis last year. Nice car.

Yes. I'm after a Carmon Red 997.1 TT manual Coupe. Feels like I'm hunting a leprechaun, riding a unicorn carrying a satchel of hen's teeth.

I'd even consider a repaint or a transmission swap...neither are appealing.

Well, by your own admission you'll be looking for a long while. I own some rare Porsche colors (Mexico Blue and Aubergine) in my air cooled cars. My turbos are boring Meteor Gray and GT Silver which is an admittedly rare color but looks like regular silver to me.

Repaint = 20K. Ask me how I know.

Unusual colors are hard to find. I love green cars, but I bought a 997.1 TT in Macadamia Brown. Based on VIN analysis, it appears that less than 10 were sold in the US. I did the same thing with my 991.1 TTS. It's Mahogany Brown, which is equally rare. I'd love to own a green 911....

What is it that makes original owners gravitate to some shade of Grey / Silver / Black
when the secondary market seeks Green / Yellow / Blue?

Lots in matchbox cars too. Don't want one of those either.
If I wanted to rice a Subaru, I'd buy one.

Safety. Those colors are easier to sell en masse, so the cars are specced that way. When I ordered a green 4S in 02 the dealer wanted a monster deposit. His rationale was that if I pulled out he'd never be able to sell it...

There's a 996TT on BAT right now.
Never seen that color before - it's pretty nice looking, a bit like an Arena red. That one needs a new steering wheel in the worse way though...
