R the 15 &16 Cayman GTS's the Next Collectible?
Was wondering if the 2015 and 2016 Cayman GTS 6MT is a future collectible because they are the last of the 6 cylinder engine. Also, what about a 2016 Spyder? Just curious.

Well yes, someday. But that someday is probably at least 30 years away. Just my opinion but the GT4 will be the collectable cayman from those years. I'm not sure the GTS does enough to seperate itself from the S and compete with the GT4. Plus if you look at 911 GTS's they don't necessarily hold let alone climb in value like GT cars. Bottom line, buy the car because you like driving it. Buying any of these cars new because of perceived future values is a fools lottery (just ask 911 R owners who paid 600k to 1million for them).

GT4 - made 5,000 +/-, so a pretty big number to think of as a collectible, but has a cult following and will always be desirable, as they are so fun to drive. One day they may be considered collectible.
Spyder - less than 900 came to the USA (so maybe 1,800 worldwide?), a lot fewer built than the GT4, with same motor and 6 speed, but did not get the GT brakes and suspension. It did get the same as the GTS tuned for the Spyder making it a great street car! They also have a cult following with owners loving them. This will be a very desirable street car with a great motor, 6spd, and limited production all which bode well for a future collectible!

Production numbers don't always tell the story, though. It used to be people thought they made way too many 930s (~20,000 worldwide) and Testarossas (~7200 worldwide) for them to ever be collectible, and...well, here we are.

I bet the GT4 will be but once they release the second variant, assuming it stays NA, I bet the first gen GT4s will have lower desirability. Spyders have been impossible to find, I'm sure it'll be more collectible.

Honestly, I don't think any Cayman will be truly collectible . They just don't have the cache of the 911, will always be in its shadows . Jmo, great cars, but that's about it as long as they make 911s.

it's , hold onto your hats, not the most desirable Porsche. But that possibility is a blind spot for most 911 owners. I was talking to a friend who's getting set to buy a 718 cayman s. I asked him why not the 911. His point blank response. "They've gotten too fat. They're basically GT cruisers. I want that smaller balanced sports car feel." I think he maybe is a bit extreme but I get where he's coming from. Does this affect long term value? Of course it does. If the perception is that 911's are becoming bigger faster straight line cars then the new generation of sports cars by Porsche is the boxster and the cayman and in the future their collectability cannot be questioned. Put it another way, there are many many kinds of Porsche's that are collectable and they aren't 911's. Saying a Cayman won't ever be collectable ignores Porsche history. I can drive to work tomorrow and see several Porsche's along the way. All 911's including a GT3 I see almost every day. But I have yet to even see a GT4 in person or now that I think about it, a Cayman GTS either.

I drove my buddies Sypder with the fabspeed mods and it's the most fun can I've ever driven possibly.
It's amazing...so much so that while looking for one I bought a GT4.
Amazing car...if they keep goofing off with turbo 4s I do believe these will appreicate...they are relatively inexpensive vs a 911 and are a ton of fun.

No, the GT4 may be, I don't think any GTS trim is going to be collectibles, 911 or not. GTS doesn't fall into the same category as the other GT (2/3/4) cars. If you look at used car prices for GT2/3/4, they don't depreciate much, sometimes even appreciate, if you look at GTS, they depreciate a little less than an 'S' and that's not saying much. $90K+ 981 GTS can be purchased for high 50's to low 60's during the winter months. It has creep up a few grand during the Spring. Collectible to me, means low miles, why would you buy one of these 981 GTS's to park in your garage. I would put as many miles on it as possible, I don't have a 'GTS', my 'S' model is fun enough.
Here is one for $55K, you can probably get it for $52K.

I've never seen a GT4. I do see a few 911's, Boxter's and Cayman's but I live in Volvo Virginia and commute to Wasteland DC every day. Lots of Tesla's, Prius, hybrids and other "save the Earth" cars. This is definitely not an area for sports cars and Porsche's are indeed a rarity let alone seeing a Ferrari, Lambo or other exotic.

GT4 and Spyder will have lasting appeal and some premium (i.e. will depreciate less than others. Limited production, flat 6, NA). I don't see the CGTS / BGTS commanding nearly the same premium -- not a special edition and less desirable than the GT4/Spyder, though it's a great car. If I wanted a real driver, I'd buy a 981 BGTS in a heartbeat.
