Similar alternative to FabSpeed intake?
I am looking into a similar open filter design intake setup like Fabspeed offers (below) but wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper alternative? $900 seems pricey for a filter on a tube regardless of how much carbon fiber they wrap it in.

Is there a similar design that won't break the bank? All others I've seen are more of a closed in box design similar to OEM.

I have a Fabspeed intake. The carbon fiber heatshield and trunk lid intake ducts seem to do a good job keeping cold air near the air filters. I measured underhood temperatures with my infrared thermometer before and after the heatshield and there was a very noticeable difference. Of course, that test was hardly scientific. This was after a long drive on a hot Hawaiian day, then a slow 2 minute drive thru my garage, and 30 seconds of idling. I could try it again and take pictures.
The Fabspeed intake came with my car when i purchased it used and i did not receive the OEM airbox so i couldn't test IAT's.

I'd use the stock box with a bmc filter, I've used that setup for years, zero issues. I never reuse or clean them, always brand new, oil cleaning will foul the maf. That's the trick.
Champion also makes an airbox, but much more scratch.

I know this topic has been discussed to death but how about the Agency Power intake? It has a cover that separates the filters from Engine bay. Also pretty expensive though.

I'm not sure I could justify spending that much on an intake.

I have the fab speed intake. Both filters are still by the intake vents on the hood lid and the carbon fiber shield keep the heat away from the filters.
The intake paired with inlet pipes really makes the turbos spool up faster.
As for price I mean you are buying an intake for a 997tt and I'm sure some of it is Porsche tax

If you install the Do88 inlet piping coupled with the STOCK airbox AND 997.2TT intercoolers = 15 to 20WHP when correctly tuned.
Running Cone style airfilters and shielding typically increase the intake air temps DELTA of PLUS 16 to 20 degrees over the above setup that I mentioned. This translates to 5 to 7 degrees of knock retard per cylinder.
The factory airbox is "Very" good.. Look at the pressure levels of the 997GT2/RS Datalogging the ambient airtemps is key.. I have seen most of the intake systems on the market with thousands of datapoints.
In the end, it's your car to mod. Buy a Driftbox and do your 60 to 130's.. You will quickly see what works and what doesn't work.
