I would imagine that at the top of the rev range the driver would go for a gear change. At this point the clutch would be engaged thus the transmission etc. would not be connected to the engine (manual box) so driveline losses etc. would not apply apart from internal engine losses. I guess it could be possible for inertia to cause the revs to keep climbing briefly if the revs were increasing before the clutch was engaged.
Unlikely though unless the driver can't drive "stick".
