1500 mile road trip, now nervous over cooling fitting failure
I'm planning a 1500 mile road trip with my 2008 TT cab which is a new car to me. It has 35,000 miles on it and is mostly stock except for an "Evolution tune" and a cat-back exhaust
How concerned should I be about a line coming loose while on the highway at 80+ mph for hours on end? It seems like many of the failures occur, or perhaps occur sooner, when the car is tracked and the engine temp reaches higher than average levels.
If I spring a moderate coolant leak I assume I will get an error message that will allow me enough time to get to the side of the highway?

This really doesn't have much to do with it but, do you know how the car was used prior to purchase?
My 08 has 60K on it. I am currently having the pipes welded in for this same reason. I have done a lot of research prior to this. I found that most reported issues have been 07 997's. Same technique was used on the 08's but, maybe different adhesive? Either way, its a weak point on the Mezger.
I had one pipe loose but, it wasn't leaking just yet. Kind of a gamble to some extent.

Prior owner drove it to work but also went to Porsche driving school and seemed to like to drive it hard. Don't know how much track time it had or exactly how hard it was driven.

My original blue 997tt was only driven hard, dd, 80k miles, over 100 track days. Never even heard of a coolant line problem at the time. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I think it's a potential issue, but a rare one. Enjoy your road trip, the sky isn't falling.

Turns out one of my coolant pipes had no more glue and was only being partially held in by the plastic clip. 2 others also had a very slow leak. Maybe mine is an outlier (there's no way to know either way) but after what I saw I would get pipes welded or pinned if and when I buy another turbo or GT3.
Most likely people that haven't had the coolant leak will tell you no and people that have had it will tell you yes.
Mileage has nothing to do with the equation. Mine had 26k miles at the time of the leak. There's some thought that cars that were driven harder/tracked are more prone to the failure.

I think I will enjoy the trip and will just keep an eye on temp and coolant level.
Thanks for the advice. Already a AAA Premier member. Having a couple old Pontiacs it has come in handy.

When you check your review mirror you should see it as and will be your first waring sign....
