I have Schnell polished quad tips on my 997.1 TT. I'm thinking of going back to my stock tips because the Schnell tips get extremely dirty in a short period of time. The finish almost looks oxidized and it takes metal polish to clean them. It's very difficult to use because of the tight clearance in the stock openings. I like the look, but it's a PITA to keep them looking good.

If your set remains "black chrome" after several heat cycles then I'm calling them for a replacement set. It's been a while since I bought my set but they had a known issue they didn't bother disclosing so I feel they owe existing customer proper resolution. Let's see fabspeed step up and make things right here.
There previously was an issue in the process of our black chrome coating. We no longer use that same process to black chrome coat our tips and have not seen or heard of any issues. Ceramic coating and our Black Chrome are two different types of coats. The Ceramic coating has a satin more textured finish than our Black Chrome which is similar to our Polished Chrome, but Black. Feel free to email our Customer Service Manager Alex:alex@fabspeed.com and he can help you out with finding a solution for your existing tips.

I had the Fabspeed black chrome exhaust tips installed on my EP exhaust in early Jan. So far they still look exactly the same.

Dennis,
I have the same issue on my BMW. I started using a plain Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on them, followed up by a very small amount of metal polishing (the eraser leaves a chalky film) and voila, brand new. It is MUCH easier than using metal polish to get them all the way clean.

Hope this helps a little.

I may give that a try, thanks. I got a recommendation last week at our local Porsche Breakfast Club meeting for a product called Wizards Metal Polish. It also sounds promising...

BTW, the Magic Eraser is fantastic for cleaning leather surfaces in your car's interior. It's abrasive, so you have to be careful, but it works nicely with leather cleaner like Lexol.

Anthony I will email Alex. Here are some early pics of my tips after just 3 or 4 heat cycles (note these are dirty, when clean the rainbow effect is more noticeable), and they got even worse over the next 2-3 months with the outer edges turning orange, yellow and violet:

Alex notified me yesterday that he did get an email from you. I'll make sure I keep updated with him as well.

Rainbow look

Totally unrelated but the Afterburner section on any of the older Century fighter jets get that Rainbow look and it's very cool.

The tips shouldn't give you any trouble with installation.
