Old RL'er - New 7TT owner :)
Hi-
Just wanted to post a thread sharing a little story and thank you guys for all of the information and knowledge I've obtained on this forum both before and after my new purchase. Like the title says, I've been a RL'er for quite some time, however this is my first turbo.
I've been a bit of a track rat for the past 11 years and spent the first part of that addiction with various M3's and NA modern Porsches. About 5 years ago I pickled up a 2007 gt3 (as a non-DD track car) and I ultimately modded the crap out of it (4.0 build, JRZ w all solid bushings, Guard LSD, Roll Bar, seats, etc, etc). Car was completely dialed in and amazing on so many levels.
In any event, real life took over......I have 2 small kids and decided to start a new business so going to the track more then a few times a year is not really in the cards.....maybe when the kiddies are older. Hence, I decided to sell the GT3 and my DD (a 2013 M5) in order to acquire a "compromise" car that I could drive to work, put the kids in the back on weekends and from time to time throw on some Hoosiers and bring to the track.
First off, I want to note that selling the GT3 absolutely broke my heart as that car was just silly good, however it went to a really good home with RL'er who is tracking the crap out of it so that makes it an easier pill to swallow. Here is an old link to that car for those of you who want to drool a bit:

So, fast forward a bit and I am in my local dealership signing papers for a loaded Black on Black 991 C2S manual with Aerokit and all the sport goodies. Car was a real beauty inside and out.....truly fantastic machine but just not really for me. I found it a little numb.....not quite enough power, not quite enough feel in the steering didn't really like the 7 speed manual........it just didn't excite me.
After a few months of the 991 I started searching for a 997 turbo as a replacement. I had driven a couple at Sebring over the years and thought it would scratch the itch. Searched the entire country and ended up finding a CPO car at Bluegrass Porsche in Louisville, KY (I live in FL). Long story short, I made a sweet deal, flew my **** up there and road-tripped home a few months ago.
The car is a Black on Black 2012 997 Turbo 6 speed manual (had to be) with about 25k miles. Some of the key options include:
- Adaptive Sport Seats
- LSD
- Chrono with motor mounts
- Dynamic Headlights
- Satellite/ Bluetoooth
I knew I was going to need to make some adjustments/Mods so she and I would be compatable. Since bringing her home, I have added the following:
- Europipe Exhaust
- GIAC/Champion Tune
- TPC DSG with GMG springs and more aggressive alignment
- Rear toe links
- OEM Short Shifter
- HRE FF01 Wheels w/ Super Sports
- Sport Design Steering Wheel
- GT2 Side skirts
- Ebay front splitter
- Clear Bra, tint, V1 hardwire
To conclude, this car has definitely scratched the itch. I feel at home in a 997 from prior experience and after the mods it handles and feels really good. The torque is just insane.....truly addictive. I finally have one car I can do all the chit I need. It still feels very modern/Fresh and I am truly happy with her.
I have snapped a few quick pics below.....thanks again for everything!

Wow! 991 to 997! love it!
Great list of mods!
I picked up a 997TT early this year and already have a child seat in the back!
They are great all round 911s.
Last of the manual too. Smart buy.

I know of 3 people that have went from 991's to 997TT's, all 3 don't regret it a bit.

The wheels are 19x8.5 (f) and 19x11 (r) - same as stock with more aggressive offsets so they sit flush in the wells. The color is called liquid silver. They are the cheaper flow formed wheel line HRE produces and unfortunately don't come any wider. I have forged wheels for the track so I figured I'd save a few bucks on the street wheels.
With respect to handling, its not on the same level as the GT3. It really isn't a fair comparison....the GT3 was lighter, rear wheel drive and heavily modified with full suspension & 600/800 lb springs. That being said, the Turbo handles quite well.....the DSC really works and keeps the car stable and hunkered down. I took the turbo to Sebring and was able to post very similar lap times to the GT3 so it's safe to say that the power makes up the difference in handling. I almost felt like I was cheating a little with the AWD though
