Default New Brakes and Rotors

I'm semi-new here, so I apologize if this has been discussed numerous times.

I've been doing some research on new pads and rotors for my TT. Is it better to just go with genuine OEM Porsche brake pads and rotor rather than another type. I know the TT stock brakes are very capable, but are others better AND cheaper? Just curious if there are other options.

I don't think the stock rotors are too expensive from what I have seen. But I don't know anything about the pads, Im sure there are good ones that probably make a lot less brake dust.

i have the hawks ceramic pads on the rear and they are little squeaky but the dust is minimal. now only if they would make the front pads so i can have a matching set

stock rotors are high... i wouldn't replace the sensors unless they were damaged. i don't see the point of replacing the caliper bolt either since it isn't torqued to yield. pads and rotors is $1200 without sensors and hardware.

Really he shouldn't replace a $10 dollar sensor are you kidding me?

I usually do this job myself if my schedule permits for around $550 the dealer charges me $1200.
Pads, Rotors & sensors.

Sensor prices went up. They are now $35 a piece or $20 through Amazon. I got the Amazon one that a member here recommended and it wasn't long enough. I chipped the original sensor by trying to pry it out instead of yanking it. I pushed it back in and no problems after 1000 miles.

Definitely not $550 in parts for all four unless your using refurb rotors. Pads are almost $300 and rotors are $850 from sun coast. Add caliper bolts at $6 and sensors at $140. It must have been a while since you've done a brake job.

Definitely buy rotor screws for .40. They get butchered even if you use an impact screw driver.

Agreed!....If the sensors aren't damaged during removal, I would not replace either. They are very simple in how they work.....So I would not waste the money unless they break. And yes, they have gone up a bit...but even at $10 I would not waste the money anyway if they still work.

Curious, how many of us actually change the brakes only after seeing a warning from the indicator? I suspect none or few. Most of us are always looking for something to work on and are always inspecting everything. There may be a few that wait for an idiot light to go off before checking....But based on the posts here I don't think many do

Anyway...everyone should do what makes them feel most comfortable....

$550 was for the front or rear only not all 4 wheels. The sensors I bought in Oct were $10 dollars and they were Porsche parts for my Cayenne S which uses Turbo parts.

reviving this thread. Just started getting some squeaking from the brakes. Don't squeak all the time but occasionally. 10k miles ago the brakes were at 9mm front and 7mm rear. I'm no brake expert but I took a look at them yesterday and the rears appeared to be low. (correct me if wrong, see photos).

Heard Sunset Porsche in Oregon has the best prices. Assume I need to do rotors and pads.

Anywhere I can get a list of tools/parts needed for a brake job? Plan on doing this one myself.

Thx

looks like you have plenty of life left, especially in the front. I would give the brakes a good cleaning with a high pressure hose and maybe try rebedding if that doesn't help.

They are getting there, but not a huge hurry.

to rebed, go out late at night.

Get up to 60 and brake moderately from 60 to 5mph.

Without coming to a stop, get back up to 60 and repeat about 5 times.

do 5 more times but braking hard.

Then, do 2 or 3 more hard stops from about 80mph down to 5 mph.

You're essentially just redepositing brake pad material on the rotors.

Once this is done the brakes should smell a bit. Bring it straight home and let it cool overnight

I did the same thing a couple of months ago thru Sonnen. I got the rear pads from Vertex here in Miami. If I would have known what the parts guy told me I would have saved some additional money. Porsche does not make pads. Yuri, padgid, and textar make them. He showed me a box of OEM pads and they had Textar stamped on them. $70 vs 170. My rotors were replaced with OEM. I did not replace the sensors. Since I was in there, I cleaned everything! Also installed Eibach springs! Need to get the car aligned but have no place to go or trust. Car sits in garage until I can get to a reputable place. I live in the FT Lauderdale area.

+1 on Sonnen. Even living in Ohio, their shopping and charges are the cheapest for DIY. My dealer will match Sonnen if they are doing the work and I tell them to.
