Default Total 997 turbos produced MT/TIP/PDK

Does anybody out there know how many 997 turbos were produced split by Gen 1/Gen 2 and transmission?

Personally I don't see many Gen 1 MT Cabs with PCCB so that got me interested and it also took me a long time finding mine!

But I'm not just interested in mine (I am in a rarity sense as people keep saying that far too many were produced for them ever to be rare), but other variants too. My OPC had no idea, you'd think they would! Porsche is clearly making far too much money for them not to know! Well I'm sure many you you forum guys as well as people working for Porsche will have an idea!!

Porsche obviously has this data at hand. Does anyone have a connection with the factory because we'd all like the info. I'd be curious what the numbers are globally as well as the US.

When looking at classifieds I think 1 in 4 of the gen 1's are manual, but I know this info is pretty meaningless - could just mean less manual owners want to sell :-) But in all seriousness, it's the factory figures that count

One data point: I read the Porsche press release for the introduction of the 997 TT cabriolet in 2008. Only 300 2008 model 997 TT cabriolets were imported to the U.S. I don't know the number in 2009, but the switch to the 997.2 TT happened in 2010. There was no 2007 model TT cabriolet. The 997.1 TT cabriolet was only made for two model years, and I have to think its a pretty rare vehicle. I would guess that less than 1,000 were sold in the U.S., but I would love to see the data. My car is a fairly unusual color, it has a manual transmission and it's pretty highly optioned. I would imagine it's a pretty unusual vehicle in the overall scheme of things.

From porsche's 2007 annual report (see page 19):

http://www.porsche.com/filestore.asp...letype=default

"The growth rate of the 911 was impressive. With an 8.8 percent increase to 37,415 vehicles (previous year: 34,386), the 911 once again set a new record. The 911 Turbo which was available for the first full fiscal year played a key role in this success story with 7,777 vehicles sold."

Here's a link to a press release by PCNA showing 2008 & 2009 CY sales. Keep in mind these are by CY not MY so the 08 figures could contain many 09 models. I don't think there were any 2010 models in 09. You can see they only sold 2 coupes and 12 cabs in Dec 09. Cab sales are about double coupe sales with much higher volumes in 08, this is understandable as the 09 was a transitional year. It doesn't break down tip vs 6 speed but I suspect there were many more tips sold based on what being sold used today. Perhaps manual owners are hanging onto their cars which could explain that.

Here's the Dec 08 press release so it shows both 08 and 07 sales. The number that jumps out it the number of coupes sold in CY 07, 2773 coupes sold in 07 vs 668 in 08 and 321 in 09.

When I tried to find the build numbers for the 997tt, these US Sales press releases are all I could find at the time too.

The Great Recession kept global sales low for our cars in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Time will tell if the limited number of the 997tt affect future resale values.

Mine was first sold in Oct 2007 in the UK, there are 2007 cab's here, not sure if I've seen an 2006 Cab before, but there are plenty of 2006 coupes

The UK seems to get Porsches one year before the US. I've seen that with other models too.

Not sure they get them any earlier...it's just that MY designation is different. IIRC, the 997 was introduced to the world about the same time but was a 2006 MY for the US and 2005 MY for the UK (and elsewhere?).

Got it. I know it's true for the 996 and the Boxster too. The 996 was launched as a 1999 model in the US and as a 1998 model in Europe.

In my earlier post, I was referring to US cars.

I'm sure the 997 was out in the UK in 2004 and the 997 turbo in 2006

U.S. usually launches in Aug/Sep for the following MY. Got my 2005 997S launch car on launch day, 8/28/04.

Have no idea about 997TT production numbers, but suspect the updated 2009's were few and far between, given the economic meltdown 2008-2009.

You will have to pry my 2009 TT coupe, MT, ***, LSD, PCCB's, SS, from my cold dead hands.
