With a dead battery no electricity to unlock trunk - alternatives well documented.

FWIW my '09 is on at least its third battery. We had a very hot mid-summer here which may have accelerated the demise of the last OE battery.

So it over revved today.

First time in 20 plus starts. Hopefully it's the last... Will see

Sorry to hear...but it won't be the last time. Occurs randomly and unfortunately a new battery isn't a permanent fix.

If you're interested in reading more about the high rpm starts go here. Can't vouch for it's accuracy but it's one of many theories.

Well I guess the battery theory is no good anymore. Looks like an engine drop again to adjust the pulse sender to specs! WM 287315 Eliminating symptoms- Engine adjusting distance from pulse sender to sensor wheel(increased engine speed after starting/SY1610) Has to be 1.2MM, I guess mine is a little off

The battery has nothing to do with the high-rpm start issue as far as I (and the factory) can tell. If anything, I noticed it more often with a new battery. I had the sensor distance adjusted a few weeks ago and it has not spiked up as high but has gone to ~3K a few times. I'm not sure it's 100% cured.
