There are so many TT out there with clean DMEs, I would pass. I would also look at 997.2 cars with the far superior DI engine.

So when was it concluded that the 997.2 DI "consumer grade" engine (Porsche's definition not mine) was "far superior" to the 997.1 "Hand Built and Race Inspired" Mezger Engines?

Things that make you go hmmmmmm!

What about this one for sale - looks to be very solid:

FWIW, send it to FVD and for $500 they will modify the range counters to whatever you want them to read. You send them the ECU and it's done. If I ever sell my car, that's what I would do. That's how important that over rev crap is to me. Move on with this over rev crap.

So, one of our site sponsors does unethical stuff like that? Nice!

^what LexVan said...
That would be immoral and unethical. Sorry...but I guess we have different values here. Screwing the next guy and misrepresenting is something we need to not promote...as a community this should not be tolerated.

I hope that is not what FVD does...

The purpose of a forum is to share things, exchange ideas and most importantly, help each other out. I think part of what makes Porsche ownership rewarding, cars aside, its the group of people that own them, which is a breed of their own. Therefore I dont find appropiate to engage in a deceiving behaviour by rewriting a DME. Live by the golden rule, life's easier that way.

Default Note to Self....

Never buy a used car from ATCBI5.

In my opinion that is the equivalent of rolling back the odometers of the old days!

FYI, if they are modifying the Limiters they can also trim the mileage to the last reported CarFax.. Guys beware.. I'm telling, study the car documents.. Rennlist is a great resource. Buying known cars from forum members usually works for the good. Do your homework..

You completely missed my point, big emphasis is placed on over revs. How do you know that was not done on other cars? You don't. That will always exist. No I would not do that nor will I sell my car. Just be aware of that.

You should re-read your own post. You're just backpedaling now.

Lost of fraud out there. Kevin is correct! I don't have a problem with those ranges it's an over rated topic on here. A proper check by a known mechanic is all you need. If the car runs, does not leak oil, has documented maintenance that's all you need. It's my opinion. Take it easy on me guys, I have a fragile psyche.

I have a different point of view. I'll speak for myself. I would leave no rock unturned when searching and buying these cars. Guys take a peak at the 996TT forum. You aren't immune to failures. There is a thread right now talking about Sandy flood cars getting by Carfax. The mechanic is not the 100% sure/safe bet. Most folks will not pay to have the car torn apart. Borescopes do help but we don't have a cheat sheet from past histories. How the car is kept up and records speak highly on the general condition of the car..

I for one do look at the DME report. I ask if the car is regularly tracked. There is a difference between one of two DE's vs 15 2 day events a year>>year after year. I place the DME results higher than seeing a front hood and bumper cover respray.

I do believe that more folks care and want to know about DME reports, vs not knowing. If you track your car or pound the Type 4, 5's and 6's, you will strongly voice the opposite opinion, and discount these diagnostic reports. One must ask why Porsche has increased the REV range reporting. To protect there engine warranty of what?? $35K.. That dollar amount still exists today with a car out of warranty...

I realize that the sky isn't falling, but one must be diligent when buying any car. How much risk can you stomach, and how much of a failure can your wallet support.

And that is criminal and if FVD and/or you do commit such crimes, I hope you both get caught, prosecuted and jailed. And if JVD does not commit such crimes, you may just fine yourself a defendant in a libel civil suit.
