EverStart MAXX H5 (BCI 47) Battery
Gents,
I've seen quite a few threads about battery replacement, but most guys go with the H7 or H6 sizes. While these are certainly better batteries than the original Moll, I decided to try to save some weight without buying a Lithium battery. Today I installed a EverStart MAXX H5 (Walmart), and it fits perfectly in the original battery tray. It is also rated higher than the original battery by a large margin in both CCA and CA. Based on my bathroom scale, the original is 45 lbs. and the H5 is 30 lbs, so it is also an easy 15lbs savings. Lastly, the car now starts like it should. My old battery wasn't dead, but I noticed the car sounded lazy when starting. Probably not surprising considering it was the original battery and my car is 7.5 years old. Now it fires right up and the starter sounds like a sports car should.

Same battery size I ran for quite some time in my GT3 until I went lithium in that car. Cheap, lighter than stock and still starts the car without any issues. Will be what I opt for if /when the turbo needs a battery.

I would recommend an AGM or other dry cell battery over lead-acid.
OP, It looks the paint on the battery tray has peeled? Did the original battery drip? Both of my 997's the 7TT and 7GT2 leaked battery acid from the original OEM battery. I posted it here a while back as one of them had made a big mess...

^I did a bunch of research on this topic and went with an Interstate brand AGM. I have to be honest, weight was not my concern. My concern was to not have any battery acid around...which by the way is the case in almost all my cars and get the best I could get a reasonable price.
I am at the airport now but tomorrow I will dig up the part number.
AGMs (advance glass mat) are much better than the typical gel-cell as they can do multiple deep discharges and provide high CCA.
Under the battery tray of the 997 platform there are some expensive stuff...so you want to keep that area dry.

The battery tray did have some peeling paint, but not sure its from acid. It had some water in it from the car being washed, so that could be why some of the paint his flaking. Regardless, I cleaned it well to make sure there isn't any residual battery acid on it. The old battery still tests good and holds a charge, but the new one just cranks so much better.

My 7TT along with everything else that I own sit for months a time as I am always gone...so I have everything on CTEK chargers (I would recommend these to everyone).
Attached are the photos of the Interstate AGM. By the way, I bead blasted and powder baked the tray in this car. GL....
