Default Newb question Sport Chrono Package

What's up everyone I am new to the Porsche world.
I am looking to get my self into 2010+ 997 turbo on stick. I really miss driving a manual. Previous cars was 06 z06 supercharged and after 2010 GTR with Switzer p800 kit.

As you can see I love to mod cars so I will be doing the same with the Porsche.

Here is my question. I am looking into 2011 997 on stick right now and it does not have Sport Chrono Package. Do I need it even though I am going to tune the car anyways.

Thank everyone.

You are better off having it because of the Sport "over boost" feature. Very few cars do not have the Sport Chrono option.

Personally I would look for a car with the Sport Chrono. Mine is tuned and I don't drive without the Sport button activated. Makes a huge difference.

Good luck in your search!

You can add the Sport Chrono feature afterwards by a Porsche dealer, but you will have no "clock" in the dash. But you will get the magic button
Try to reduce the price and buy the car. Without the Chrono Package, a 997 turbo is almost useless....

Thanks for the response guys. I assumed that after the tune the sport over boost get eliminated anyways.

If I am correct, a power tune will override the SportChrono over boost function anyhow...so my opinion is that you really don't need SC if you are going to flash the ECU for more power anyhow. I personally don't care for the looks of the dash pimple anyhow. Other than SC I find it useless...

If you are going to modify the car especially the turbos, tune and etc. you will not need the sport chrono package. Also, if you are looking to modify the car quite a bit (the engine), look into the first generation of the 997 turbo. The engines are a lot more robust. Look for threads on that as there is a lot of information regarding that.

That was my understanding also, but this could get interesting

Of all the options on my car ('08 MSRP $165K!), i don't have the SC....

Seems I won't miss it then if I add a tune?

I was going to try to add it, but it appears to be a difficult retro fit.

Sc is a gimmick option, if you tune it, irrelevant in about 5 sec.
