Default Brombacher opinions on a TT

I've just sold a Ferrari 550 Maranello and am happy to be returning to a Porsche. I'm thinking about a GT3, 997 TT (would love an S but challenged by price) and am looking at some non S turbos as well given their lower cost and already realized depreciation.
So, my question, I've found a 2008 turbo 6 speed with a Brombacher FVD stage 3 turbo kit with a "race exhaust, kat bypass" resulting in 610 hp. The hp's great, but here's my questions, reliability issues? drivability issues?, here's a big one, exhaust noise particularly in the cabin. For what I can find Brombacher is a respected company, but this car will be a long time keeper, and I don't want a car that is too loud or out there, but it sure would address the performance deficiency compared to a turbo S. I've also noted there are apparently no extended warranties available on the car given it's modifications. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated, I have lots to learn.

Here's the link to the car;http://www.ebay.com/itm/321266850819...84.m1438.l2648

^The car does look nice! Of course, I am biased towards White!
But would this car pass a state emission test with a cat bypass? Also, I am assuming no sort of warranty on this car? Unless the mods are done by a reputable shop in town where you live and the car resides, buying a car like this from a source unknown and then trying to trace "...who did what to the car..." can get frustrating if you have issues.

I think that you maybe more than happy with the 530hp of a stock TTS as the starting point. With AWD they are extremely fast!

Very nice TT but IMO it's way over-priced. It doesn't have PCCB's, adaptive seats, back-up sensors, CF and etc. The mods are nice but it appears the seller is charging you retail for them. Are those track/timers/cameras in the front and rear? If so, that's a red flag for me given the mods too which indicate it may have been tracked a lot.

Great comments, I appreciate your insights. It's interesting that the mods were only done a couple of months ago. I have a copy of the invoice but haven't connected with he shop that did the work. The customer supposedly did the work and then immediately decided to buy a Lambo, so sold the car. I agree the asking price is high, but I consider that a starting point for negotiations. I'm probably going to steer clear of the car. This purchase will be a long term keeper, so I'll probably do a service contract on it, which I can't do on this car. I jet spent some good seat time in an 08 turbo 6 speed and a 11 turbo S. The 08 was nice, but i have to admit I was hooked on the S. Asking prices are mostly in the high 120's but that has to be coming down. I may just try to wait until I can find a nice 2011-12 turbo S in the 110-115 range. Anyone want to venture a guess on how long that wait will be?

That is hard to say.. We will have to see what happens with all TT prices a year into the new 991 TT. I agree with the others. The car is not optioned well enough to command that kind of money.

The only tuner that can ask close to retail for mods is RUF. I would look for another car. Also like the others said... The stock TTS is very very quick...

Driving an 08 turbo 6 speed back to back with an 11 turbo S was enlightening, the 08 was really quick, but the turbo S was clearly faster, and i guess I prefer faster. That's why I was drawn to this tuned 08 with 610 hp. I agree the price is out of line and I would never pay 100K, but that's what negotiating is for. This car has only accrued 200 miles since the mods were done and has 12,271 miles total. I suspect this car has been pampered, not tracked. I'm concerned about smoging it in Ca. and whether the exhaust is just too radical (Brombacher posts video's of their systems so you can listen). I was hoping someone had actually had experience with his stage 3 system as to how it performs in the real world. In any case I realize the risks here and appreciate the advice.

550 Bryan

I decided not to do the stage 3 bc it would most likely need a new clutch & some of the daily drive ability could be lost- idk I just stopped at the stage 2. I'm considering selling my 07 stage 2 997TT manual - at 39k on the clock

Thanks German_Saint, I was a little worried about the drivability of as modified engine pumping out 610 hp, and you're confirming that concern. I did notice the installation included a new clutch on a 12,000 mile car, not the norm.

It doesn't sound like a stage 3 system is the preferred choice, BTY, what does a stage two system deliver in terms of HP?

Agree with igooz the TTS is the better choice by far. I wouldn't touch a car with any fvd crap on it least of all one with cat bi passes and the likes…yuk. I mean what seller is ever going to tell you anything other than what you want to hear to get the car off the lot. If the owner put the fvd junk on it and the next month he is booting the car then that tells you something right there.

First let's set something straight- FVD isn't crap or junk. The stage 3 is there for those looking to take it to the next level- often times for an intended purpose -Texas Mile is on my list so that's off the top of my head. I didn't want to go to a heavy duty clutch with a quick bite that is harder to use from red light to red light- but at speed it's what is needed. After speaking w/ my Master Tech I decided I would keep it where it is at-

550bryan- your looking at 555 HP/ 550 Tq. at the stage 2. It is quite amazing- I've had zero issues with the upgrades- I have the export sound- It's a beast- my tech says its still one of the sickest setups around.

Rhonda at FVD USA is very nice and helpful-

I just bought an 08 with a Werks 1 700 hp kit, it has a Sachs clutch, no issues
with drivability, I came from a 650 hp all motor Viper, clutch feels like stock,
don't care much for the high engagement but same as stock. Power comes on
smooth, almost no need to down shift due to the torque. FYSA.

German-saint. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Edit by John D.

If this post is anything but inflammatory - I'd love to understand "how".

If you have any issues with this edit - PM me, but, please know beforehand - I have a really short attention span to intentionally flaming posts.

Thanks - and Happy Holidays.

I have only heard good things about FVD.. What does the Stage 2 include? ECU, exhaust.. Headers too? Or is there more?
