Default Steam machine detailing?

Seems to be a new and faster way to detail both the inside as well as outside.
I'm a little suspicious. The commercial machines are in the $4-6K range.
Also I'm not so sure it is a good idea on 3M or other paint protective coatings.

Anyone have personal experience with one?

Thanks,

Walt

Thanks for posting, I will have to do a little more reading. Would be nice if they came out with a portable model.

It seems to me without suds and lubrication this would cause micro marring. Looks like a cool idea, just not sure I would use it on a high end car with soft paint. The pint gets softer with heat too.

Not intrigued that much.

Since steam cleaning seems to be of interest, search YouTube for: Barn Find: Classic Porsche 912 Restoration -- /DRIVE CLEAN. The detailer uses a steam cleaner and discusses the pros/cons and what to avoid. Bottom line, he uses it in only special cases.

212° steam against my paint would scare the snot out of me....and they state it is "Dry steam" in the video....the begining of the slip where you see the water beading would disagree.

Ever touched the surface of your car or interior after sitting in the sun for a few hours? I don't think there's much to be concerned about w/ this steam versus paint or leather.

That's hardly a recommendation. I've seen plenty of cars with horrible paint due to exposure. Why accelerate the paint's decline using "steam"?

The exposure you're referring to is due to UV light, not temperature.

I guess I shouldn't ever drive my car... at least not when the sun is out. I think the steam probably wouldn't hurt anything unless you sit there blasting it. People normally buy these things to clean hardwoods and stuff.

Thanks for the info, here's a link to the guy talking about the steamer in the video:

Sounds like the concern is dragging dirt across the surface, not heat. Seems like it would be really nice to have one for getting into cracks, wheels, wheel wells etc.
