Mid Atlantic 07-08 prices are $70-75K for a TIP and $73-79K for a 6-speed, 09 prices are $83-89K. Good condition 997.1's are holding their value very well.

Either pay up front or pay later and there's no way around it ..
I would rather pay bit more and enjoy a newer car feel than buying a cheaper car and trying to make it newer
When one sees a car in low 70's and another one in high 70's, ask yourself a question why? Does the later has less mileage, high option sticker, more desirable color combo, service history, newer tires, recently serviced etc etc?
Of course there are always a chance to stumble across a good deal but that shouldn't dictate the market though?

Just went down the same road that you're on. As others have mentioned, there are almost always issues with the cars in the $60's. These cars typically have some combination of the following:
1. high mileage relative to other cars on the market - 40K-50K miles isn't a lot, but an abundance of cars below 20K exert downward pricing pressure
2. mods - many buyers enjoy doing their own mods or want cars with no mods
3. rough exterior/interior condition
4. 3+ owners
5. auction sales
6. lease cars
7. overrevs in the 4,5 or 6 ranges
8. paint/body work
9. interior options/colors that don't have broad market appeal
Summary of recent data points - should give you an idea of the market (all 6spd with sport chrono):
1. 2007 27K miles, had a deal at $76K, buyer backed out during PPI
2. 2009 19K miles, CPO - P dealer wouldn't budge on $89K asking price
3. 2008 580 miles, Aero package - seller offered $94, I offered $90K (seller later came down to $90K)
4. 2009 17K miles, $18K in options, seller offered $87K, I offered $86
5. 2008 17k miles, P dealer offered at $80K, passed due to to range 5/6 overrrevs
6. 2008 1800 miles, CPO car, negotiated to $88K, it sold before I could finalize
7. 2008 1280 miles, bought it for $85K
Other than 6 spd and Sport Chrono, options seem to have little effect on market value. Some like the Sport Adaptive seats but I plan to swap to lighter seats eventually, so wasn't a big deal.

The market is all over the place, it all depends on Carfax history, automatic manual, mileage, color combo and year. A 2007 Tip in dark green with over 60k miles and a bad carfax should be in the 50's, while an 09, in white, 6spd / chrono, with 18k miles should still be in the 90's.
I purchased my 2008 1 owner, clean carfax, 58k miles, 6spd / chrono, $147k sticker, excellent condition - $63500 from a dealer in Arizona. The reason my car was so cheap is because of the undesirable color, its Macadamia Metallic / Natural Brown.

How about this

You are not going to get a desirable color combo, 6 speed with good options for below high 70's.

Thank you for the data points.
I'm selling my 2008 Tip Cab with 35k now. Will list it here later today.
