Dead Battery
#17
I would see this as a great excuse to ditch the 42lb. boat anchor and get a lighter battery. I'm waiting for the stocker to die in my 07, but it's always been maintained on a trickle charger so I can't get it to die, haha.

Must have been something in the air.......After returning from the track Sunday afternoon I turned on the ignition to scan for OBD2 diagnostic trouble codes (fortunately there were none) but then failed to turn off the ignition. The battery was dead as a doornail come Monday morning. Hooked up my 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hrs with no effect. Yesterday performed the "emergency" key removal process and frunk opening (you would think the German engineers could come up with something a little more user friendly) and hooked up a 6 amp charger directly to the battery until this morning. The car fired right up and within a few miles all the warning lights extinguished themselves. Case closed. Good luck!
PS My battery was replaced one year ago.......

After 7 days the alarm goes to sleep and remote stops working. It's in the manual.
If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within 7 days, the remote control standby function is switched off (to save the vehicle battery).
1. In this case, unlock the driver’s door with the key at the door lock.
Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.
2. Press button 1 on the remote control. The remote control is now activated again.

Got home today and the car fired up and all is working. I'm feeling lucky.
I plan to keep the charger on it over night and take it on a 3 hour road trip tomorrow. Looking forward to the drive.
A few lessons learned for sure. Thanks to everyone for helping.

I use the CTEK 3300 trickle charger. I think that I have 8(?) of them running right now.

Always a good idea to put the pcar on trickle charger if you are parking the car for more than a few days. The "dark" current or quiescent current in the system tends to drain the batteries.
Also, lead acid batteries are not good for getting deep cycled (completely discharged). So the next time that you go to replace your battery take a close look at a AGM (dry cell) with a high enough CCA (>700A)...Interstate batteries has one that fits perfectly and you don't have to worry about battery acid, etc.

I've found from trial and error that you don't need to use your key to unlock the door after your alarm has gone to sleep (after 7 days as previously mentioned) - simply pull on the door handle to wake up the system, then use your remote as usual.
