Default Repair separated cup holder trim?

The CF on my cupholder dash trim is separated from the plastic behind it. I'm going to pull it out today and see if I can gently clamp it....might as well try it before spending a bunch on a replacement piece. Does anyone know if there's a good glue to try for this?

^Roy I am afraid this is normal for the CF bits...I have had best luck with Gorilla Glue for my automotive interior bits.

Thanks, I was thinking Gorilla glue too, I will try it tonight. Unfortunately I have a couple pieces of trim that the previous owner broke....but I think I should be able to repair this one. Too bad this stuff isn't more durable because it looks awesome!

A family member told me 3M has a new two sided tape that would work in this case. After you get it taped to one side, you peel it off and all that is left is the glue.

I have a piece of dash CF that came unstuck after the dealer redid it about 40K miles ago.

I am a firm Gorilla Glue believer from other projects, so I may give it a try.

This might be what he was talking about

If the car is under Cpo, the dealer will replace it under warranty. Just had my entire cf center console, dash trim, rt arm rest and shifter **** all replaced under warranty, that's about 5k+!

bought 07 TT with 2 yr cpo few months ago- CF defroster trim had been repaired under orig fact warranty few times by orig owner- it was all warped
and coming up when i bought car- understood this is known problem- Dealer said CPO didn't cover this- i read CPO and it doesn't cover trim so i didn't pursue this- just bought leather defroster trim pieces & put them on- no CF now by
windshield but it's all leather with nice stitching that matches rest of dash-looks
great.
My cupholder CF trim is also starting to separate a bit right in middle- was going
to take cupholder out and try to glue the CF. i'll give dealer a call to see if CPO cover this.

My car is not CPO, but I'm quickly learning that my next one should be. After being out of German cars for a while and driving nothing but a Honda and a Ford for 4 years, I forgot how expensive the dumbest parts can be.

As for the 3M tape my only concern would be whether it could hold up in the heat. However I have used 3M tape for car body parts before so I supposed it's pretty tough. The trim piece isn't fully separated though, just coming apart at the middle, so I think glue is probably better in this case.

I would use glue and some gentle, mini c clamps to approximate the edges until dry, take it off first of course.

Bgrppf, your cpo should def cover this. The gm took pictures and sent them to pcna, then they got approval and called me to come in about two weeks later. Have your sales gm get involved.

It still amazes me that PAG puts such effort into the design and engineering of these great cars, but cannot prevent crappy CF issues.

There are better CF aftermarket pieces that will not do this.

Go leather. Go painted. Or go aftermarket CF.

I had almost all of my CF replaced under warranty too. Including the cup holder trim. Not very quality stuff.

3M Double-sided Tape? I used the all-weather version to re-attach a decal on my elliptical trainer AND attach my front plate to my car. It's a great professional product. Like coffee - cures what ails ya. It may work perfectly for this CF stuff.

Problem is most of the cf warps and bends, not merely separating. I wonder if one could heat it up to make it more pliable, then affix glue/tape?
