ECU tune affect on engine life?
I did a search and have been unable to find info. What type of affect does an ECU tune have on long term health of the engine? Assume the tune is a quality program done by a good shop who knows Porsches well. Does the tune really affect long term health, or do the guys who get an ECU tune just drive their cars harder so that might account for shorter engine life. Any thoughts?

these engiens are bullet proof and will not fail.
i had over 80k miles onmy 996tt that i use to beat the **** out of..
ive hadmy 997t for 2 months now, its on a 100 octane file but im running 93. ive been beating the **** out of it and she's totally fine.
the reason im ont he 100ot file is because i dont know my security code to switch to 93. im putting bigger turbos and will re-tune then (about a month)

i dont need luck.
i wont sell this car. the 997.1 will go down in history as the best turbo ever made.
the motor is going to be be built by the end of the summer.
alpha 3076's are up next with an e85 fuel system.
a month after that , The Tim will build my motor.

I agree that if the tune is a quality program and doesn't push the boost there should be no ill effects on the engine. I don't think I will ever sell my car. I may do what you are going to do when the time comes!

Steve are you going to run Todd's E85 tune?

Curious, have you ever taken a data log running the 100 oct tune on 93 octane gas?
If so, how many and how severe were the timing corrections / detonation events.
IMO it is disingenuous to say that running a 100oct tune on 93oct gas is anything but a very risky and dangerous proposition.

this is Tim.
he has worked on my porsche turbo since the beginning. (2008).
the BEST mechanic i've ever come accross.
he built the yellow 996tt (spoolbus) which has yet to lose a race to anyone.

....going back to Nuclearfishin's question...
IMO: Other than the Porsche Engine Engineers and test Engineers not too many people really know the design margins there is on the engine...but we all agree that the 3.6T seems to be plenty robust!! There are plenty of folks with high mileage, plenty of folks that souped up this motor, plenty of folks that have over-rev'd the motor (a few times), and this is the base engine where Porsche builds race (motors) cars, the GT2, GT2RS, ...
By design margin, I mean I am not sure how much more boost, cylinder pressure, IMT, EGT, knock, stresses, torsionals, etc. and/or a combination of can the "stock" motor handle...For sure, I think that "within reason" you should be OK!
