Stef is correct. If you don't want drone in the tippy get the Stage 1. Accept the drone in cruise RPM's if you go to the Stage 2..

EP1 won't give me any issues & i'm sure i'll love it- but for few $ xtra could have freer flowing EP2 - just worried about not being able to live with the drone & regret it. Anyone with EP2 on a 997.1 Tiptronic have any advice? Mahalo folks!
I'm in the same position. If I'm going to replace the exhaust I want to do it properly and I'm sure I can live with the occasional drone (I do already with the stock exhaust) if the EP2 adds value in overall sound and performance.

After you hear it you will wonder how you ever lived with the stock exhaust as long as you did.

With a tip, I'd stick with a ep1 or similar. Anytime a manufacturer actually says it drones, that means it drones like a ******, usually.

you can really hear the turbos spool, with the stock exhaust they are barely audibly IMO. And the deep growl is such an improvement vs stock

enjoy

Just picked it up but's raining like mad here and I had to head right back to office so I need a few days and I'll do a thorough write up.

Very quick impressions:

The sound of the exhaust note is deep.. very deep. Lovely, rich and down right menacing are adjectives I'd use. The tone is right at the lower frequency range where you feel it in your chest... the feeling where your chest starts to tingle a bit. It's awesome.

Turbo spool and whistle - is so audible now. I was worried it was going to be a bit overwhelming but I can honestly say it's damn near perfect.

Drone - there is drone in cruising rpms (2100 - 3000) gents. It's noticeable, just like Stef advises. If you do not want any drone... of any kind, I'd advise you, as Stef does, to go with the EP1. I don't drive the car often and I've had expensive, loud after market exhausts on every car I've ever owned, so it doesn't bother me.

More when I've had some proper time with it.

I had the ep1, brand new, never droned, good exhaust. Droning is one thing that is unacceptable for me, simply not worth the extra 1 hp, imho.
I listened to your clip, man that's loud on startup. My ep1 was loud on cold start, but that's a deal breaker for me (and the neighbors). If you can't stand it after a few days, I'd contact stef about swapping it for a ep1, but I'm sensitive about loud droning exhausts, maybe just me.
GL either way

Hi.. yes, that video I posted was a complete cold start with exhaust just put on so the sound was at the highest point of intensity. After the engine is warm, it's not even close.

Here's a video of the car starting up about 10 mins after the initial cold start. Big difference.

Re the drone, i was afraid to mention it for fear how people would interpret it. Hold up gents till I've had some more time with it. I've only driven the car 30 mins, during pouring down rain, so it was premature for me to do any real critique at this point.

The noise from my tires in the rain was actually louder than any drone i heard and I do not mind it. Even when you hear any bit of it, it gets erased 100% as soon as the tach needle goes above 3k.

I'm gonna drive the car for several hours this weekend (not in the rain) and I'll will write up a very thorough analysis and i'll really speak to the drone as that is the biggest question that comes up between EP1 and EP2.. and one I struggled with for months.

The only thing I can say for certain, which is nothing new, is that Stef offers the absolute best customer service I've ever experienced with any company... period. The exhaust itself, is an absolute work of art. And the sound is rich, deep, and just wonderful in every way.

The 997tt feels so clinical stock. I never liked that aspect about it. Extremely fast but devoid of any real feeling or emotion.

I wanted a bit of theater and emotion and now, with the EP2, I have that.

Sounds better hot, they all do. I wouldn't worry about mentioning/interpreting drone, either it drones or it doesn't. I've ridden that horse before, never again (drone). Awaiting your report

Sounds great, contrary to Chris^ I like the cold start sound I wouldn't mind having it all the time at idle.

Congrats.
