Best model year for a manual transmission Turbo?
Given that it has now been officially confirmed that the 991 Turbo will only offer a PDK transmission, I expect many fans of manual transmissions (such as myself) will be looking to purchase a pre-owned 997 Turbo at some point in the future. Which model year is the best?
My initial thoughts would be 2009 (last year of the Mezger engine and the first year of the PCM3). Does anyone disagree? The 2010+ models offer an additional 20HP and improved suspension (among other changes), is it worth giving up the Mezger engine? How well are the new DFI engines holding up? Are there other factors that I am not considering and should?

but end of the day i bought an 07 because the vehicle itself is more important to me than PCM... i saw the "pdk only turbo" from a mile away and snagged mine 2 weeks ago.. and loving it!
i personally do not like the DFI turbo's because they are a little less "raw" and too refined for me.
so the answer, 07-09 MT/ 3.6L TT... all basically same besides PCM change and ventilated seats in 09.

2009, being the last mezger with the added PCM3 bonus will be most sought after.
Changes have been made throughout the 3 years.
F.ex. DME unit has been changed starting MY08. Other control units again have changed for MY09.
Journalists and independent testers have noticed better road manners at the limit from 2008 on but since this was all due to electronics 2007's must have been updated with similar software when in for service.

Agree with you but the future will proof TT Surgeons words correct.

my thoughts are yes, it will be most demand. but how much more of a price can it command since only a pcm upgrade.. it does not have the 997.2 suspension or body upgrades.. so one could argue the value of an 09 can only be the cost of PCM higher than an equally optioned 08.. not necessarily leaps and bounds higher.
i found an under warranty triple black 09, 75k @ a dealer when i was hunting, but went for my similarly priced 07 instead because of options i desired and color.. i loved the pcm 3.0 touchscreen and ventilated seats but wasn't going to sacrifice color desire for a touch screen.
my only pet peeve with PCM 23 is lack of bluetooth or especially lack of A2DP

The DFI engines are strong. No issues that i have heard to date.
Some Caymen track cars are running 3.8L DFI's and very reliable. And affordable to replace.
Stock 09+ Caymens have also been very reliable with DFI.
Anybody here driven both the 997 Metzger turbo and 997 DFI turbo back to back?

What the difference in market value will be for the '09 is hard to tell, could be 5K , could be 10k or 20K , impossible to tell at this moment. But for similar condition cars the '09 will command a premium over the 07/08's.
But in the end every 997/1 manual will be a collector car. And in high demand.

with no manual offered for 991 GT3 and 991 Turbo, resale futures of the 997 generation are looking strong.
Who would have thought the 997 generation would have become somewhat of the 993 generation in terms of resale
