Default Thinking of getting a TT again

I have been out of the game for a bit, and my CFO is permissing me to get another toy.
I previoulsy had a 996TT which was a blast and I became very familiar the DIY's on it and the common problems with it - how to avoid them and how to assess them.
This toy's allowable budget is a little higher, and it appears would get me to the bottom level of a 997.1TT with a little room to spare for a mod and a maintenance slush fund. I am currently early retired while the wife slaves away, so I don't want any tradgedies.
I have seen a few come up for sale in the $60-65k range with 60k miles and 3+ owners.
Am I just asking for trouble considering one of those?
What are common problems, are the 997's more difficult for DIY etc?
I've spent, and will continue to consume time searching this forum... I love this forum

Hey! Welcome back! Love this forum too. The 997.1 TT is a GREAT car with minimal problems. The most common problem being the Clutch Slave Cyclinder and Accumulator. There's a thread in play right now on this problem. But this is very very minor and easy to fix - especailly with someone like yourself who has the tools and experience.

Agreed...lol. I think his will have to in order to find a 997TT for 60-65. 70 seems to be the starting point for the most part.

Tell your CFO that you should increase your budget or get a 996 TT thats'a already modded.

This. Get a thorough PPI, Q&D DME, any req'd service and drive it home.

The current 60-65 factors in going over budget.
I might end up selling the new 70k+ tt to purchase my own home if she got wind of the toy costing that much.
We already had a 996TT and as great as it was, for some reason I don't think we would be happy duplicating.

Definitely also have in budget money to spend researching cars, DME report with PPI. just didn't know of any 997 specific weird issues similar to the 996 2nd gear pop out.
Did the hydraulics on the spoiler get any better?

fwiw: I paid under 80 for my 07 TT with 14K and some nice options......
I think that price range is possible......but you might have to settle for a high
mileage car.........

Considering an 08 w 60k miles, thinking of scheduling an absent PPI to check the DME, if it looks ok, then might see it and do another PPI in person.
Seller car still has ceramic rotors on it and evolution motor mounts.
He couldn't do a PPI for a few days bc it is having a new clutch put in... hmmm probably just a friction disc and no other work.
Also warned me that the dealer would be too picky on the PPI since they view his car as competition.
I don't see that as a bad thing
This may not be the right car, but it is a starting point to reference others off of.

What about all the issues with pressed coolant couplings coming apart that I keep reading about? one of the sponsors even has a kit made to correct these. I wonder if this is something to worry about more with a 50k+ car

Expensive fix requiring the engine out in most cases...

Yes any GT1 based porsche needs to worry about his, especially those with high mileage.

Definitely aware of that, as I had the coolant fittings welded on my 996tt from a blow off.
Any major maintenance differnces between the 996tt and 997tt?

Hmmm... I'll have to go ahead and disagree with ya on that one. The .1 TT's I beleive have got a great service record. Sure there's the odd thing but nothing major. Anybody else have a comment on this?
