997.1 to 997.2 Steering wheel Swap Done!
#136
I did it 997.1 to 997.2 steering wheel swap
Here is the instructions in a document you can take to the dealer.
Only step 3 is needed if you purchased a used module or have the correct module, so enable MF and heat or whatever options your car has. I purchased a new Electronic Control - Porsche (997-613-289-01) did it the hard way.

I didn't receive my airbag yet but i installed the steering wheel with the new controller module 997.613.289.01
It was taken from 2010 boxster manual without MF or rear wiper.
I did the coding with piwis and everything worked well except the heat function.
It says that the heater sensor in the steering wheel is defective.
Any thoughts about this?

Replaced my 997.1 standard non-MF triangular steering wheel with a 997.2 non-MF wheel (manual car).
Everything went smoothly and it looks great, but of course: the horn doesn't work
The horn button works fine, so there should be no wires obstructing the movement of the airbag module.
I read so many threads on this, but still can't figure out what the final solution would be in my case:
- do I first need to ask my indie to switch on multi-function with PIWIS?
- do I need to order a controller?
- anything else to get this solved?
thanks!

Sounds like wiring, from my understanding the horn just completes a ground or DC- circuit to the horn relay. There is no option to disable this in the PIWIS.

Any tips and tricks for making sure the wiring stays in the right place when sliding the airbag in?
[Edit:] Or did you mean wiring as in incorrect connections? I simply connected the airbag's ground wire and two colored plugs to the steering wheel connector. The old wheel didn't have a separate ground wire though, only the colored plugs.]

I've got the same issue as you. Replaced my old triangle manual nonMF wheel with the same wheel you have. I even bought the new steering wheel control module. Problem my Indy had was new control module got the horn to work but my Multi Function capabilities on the toggle switch on steering column wouldn't work (where you can flip between air pressure, oil readings, etc). Put the old control module in and horn doesn't work but my in dash readings now work. After working on it for a number of days, they could not figure out how to make the horn work on the old control module "or" to get the steering column multi function reading to work with the new control module. Because of all the frustration, I decided I needed my dash readings more than the horn, so kept my old steering control module in. Would really like to know how to make both work with the new control module or is there something else that's needed?
I need the horn to work, otherwise I won't be able to pass the Belgian MoT...

Advice from the experienced please
Hi from across the ‘pond’, although I am not directly related to your fine examples of Porsche engineering, I do have a bit of an issue that has me stumped and was hoping that someone might be able to give advice or even better a solution.
I have a 2008 Porsche Boxster S 987.1, 3.4ltr. Tiptronic. Does not have heated seats.
Originally it had a tiptronic, non-multifunction steering wheel fitted. https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...AF185AF02.jpeg
I now have a multifunction, tiptronic/PDK, heated steering wheel fitted https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...323198EB3.jpeg
As the new steering wheel had heating I fitted a new clock spring 955.652.211.22 , and a new control module 997.613.299.02.
After coding with PIWIS the gear paddles work, some functions such as volume, mute, source work but as soon as you turn on the ignition, the horn sounds continuously and can only turn off if you push the horn, (reverse action to normal) or turn off the ignition.
Many thanks
Hanny

I am happy to report that the PIWIS suggestion worked!
Dealer reprogrammed the car yesterday, activated "multi-function steering wheel", and hey presto, the horn miraculously worked!
This great forum came through once again

Oh my goodness, i've read this entire post and i am a bit still confused:
I own a 2007 997.1 with the sport steering wheel (round old airbag NOT triangular)
I do NOT have MF on this wheel (obviously)
I want to switch to this: 997.2 wheel after i buy the wheel i also will need this airbag
In order for the horn to work:
1. Will the horn work?
2. Does the dealer need to program the current 997.1 module to MF for the horn to work?
3. Will i need to purchase module 997.613.289.02?
Thank you in advance...
John

My indie told me that with older 911's you could program the car to believe it had an on-board computer (even if it hadn't), and that would show the outside temperature on the dash.

I have done 2 swaps already and it doesn't seem you will have a horn issue.
Module only needed if your adding a MF wheel your not.
Swap it and see worst case it will need a program but unlikely.
