Default The "New" Porsche Blues

I thought I bought on Friday - then the vendor crapped out on me - another old air cooled turbo which I was planning to drive on occasion. i have had (and loved) air cooled cars before - then run out of space or get to asking myself what the heck do i have 3 Porsches for ...??...that kind of thing. Truth be told, I am in a bit of a funk about my 997.2 TT and not even looking forward to getting it out of storage that much this spring. Don't get me wrong, I love Porsches...its just the car - although lightning quick - just isn't visceral enough.

I was going to order a tri-turbo 991 - but it will be the same thing i would think and now they are telling me it will be PDK only. How do you solve the 'new Porsche Blues' without having three cars (993tt - GT3 and 997.2)..four with a Cayenne?

Thanks for letting me vent.

What aspects of the 997.2 do you not like that gets you in a "funk" ?

if your looking for something visceral, I would suggest a 997.1/996 GT2 or an F430

Could it be that you are in a funk over loosing the air cooled Porsche?

I feel your pain.

Simple solution. Get a REAL exhaust on the .2T that makes it BARK and GROWL and wake up the neighbors. These engines sound visceral IF let them. Check your question after that.

The new TT's with a good exhaust are STILL the BEST all around DD. IMO.

Do what I did, 997.1tt.
I use my tt as a dd, perfect in that role, 99% of the time I'm alone in the car, traded my cayenne in on it and never looked back. I had one for 4yrs, 70k miles, really missed that car.
The 997.1tt is as close as you can get to the 993tt feel, IMO having had both.
If I really feel old school I'll always drive the 930 slant, now that sob is visceral!

GT3 RS!

I had originally planned to order a 2010 GT3, paint to sample, although I have to have rear seats and expect that would have been difficult and costly. I ended up talking myself into a new 2009 TT, on the lot, nicely spec'd. While I love almost everything about the TT, and its a great DD, there are times when I'd still like something more raw.

You need a time machine, so you can go back in time and not sell and/ or buy. I miss and regret selling my 1981 930, especially where it's now selling for more than what I sold it for in 1992. It was a great DD, I could drive that car around town all day long in 2nd gear. I even kind of miss the fear/white knuckles when entering a turn or exit ramp at speed and worrying that the rear end was going to come around on me. I've kicked around the idea of buying another one, but something tells me it's like getting back together with an ex-girlfriend, once you do you realize why broke up with in the first place. For the time being I'm keeping the rose colored glasses off.

I actually know what you mean. The turbo S is so fast with the pdk that it feels clinical. Drive a gtr and you will appreciate that the 997.2 turbo S has a lot of feel. I do prefer my 997.1 turbo because of the 6 speed and no PTV. I kept the 09 car for that reason. I agree the 997.1 turbo is the closest thing to the 993 turbo. The 991 is obviously going to be quicker but will have even more technical aids to help you.

Seems like exhaust would really help out with the visceral effect.

I perscribe an Exhaust and a ECU tune for your 997-2..

Come drive with me if you want some "visceral".. Race gas and 600hp..All four tires break loose. Woo Hoo!!

It's beast when it's angry and a Kitten in the city..To me its the perfect all around sports car. And I have had a lot of P cars as well..

I think that a lot of people "baby" these TT cars too much. Afraid they are going to "break" them. What is the point of having a car like this unless you drive the **** out of it?

Wake that baby up with a couple mods rather than sell it..

sounds like you should sell your A4 and turn your 997TT into your daily driver and move this car into being your fun and VISCERAL car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2011-...item565098f93c

and that's why I have kept my 964 Turbo for all these years (10 to be precise)

Yes I love my 997.1 TT but there's something in that SOB, that would keep you going back to it.

Here it's going to Daniel Jacobs, CT to have few things looked at and to make sure it's in perfect mechanical condition.

I might have to check out DJ, need some air cooled / WUR expertise which is hard to find.
