Default Rottec DRL and Dectane / Depo tail lights

Guys, I'm getting ready to order a set of Dectane/Depo tail lights and have been corresponding with the seller. He also is offering the Rottec DRL for the 997 and mentioned they should fit the 997.1 Turbos , also promised a full refund if they don't. Now my research here and on the web confirms that the Rottec DRLs fit all 997.1 except the Turbos and GT2. am I missing something?

also, any final comments regarding experience with Dectane/Depo tail lights I should be aware of before I finalize my order? and do I need to install the resistors with these lights for a 2007 97 Turbo or are resistors only required for the 2005-2006 997 builds?

thanks
Art

Art,

What car do you have? I know for a fact that Rottec LED rear tailights fit the 997.1's but their DRL's do not fit the 997TT. The whole front light of a non-turbo is totally different compared to the turbo.

In terms of resistors, I also read that Dectane works without any issues but you may want to confirm that with the seller

Hi Edwin

I have an '07 997 TT. I know the dectane/depo tail lights will work, but have read contradicting posts around the need to use the resistors that come with the lights. I think the resistors increase the voltage drawn by the LEDs so the computer thinks the regular bulbs are still in place, just not sure if this is required for 2007 builds

and thanks for confirming that the Rottec DRLs will not work with the turbos.

I thought that the Dectanes were "plug and play"? My good friend has them on his 997 C4S and he didn't have to change anything...

Dectane/Depo come with a small (maybe 2 in x 2 in x 2 in) resistor box that plugs in to a connector on the light fixture. Some cars require, others not. I have the lights in 2008 TT and it was just as easy to install w/ the resistors so I did and have had no problems in a year of operation.

There has been no need for resistors in either of the two sets. The fit of the Dectane is better, leaves a smaller gap all around with the fender and bumper. Also, the Dectanes are easier to install, as it is one connector at the base of the harness. In the Rotec's you take out each leads and bulbs and slide them into place in the new light, at a different order. Having tried both, and having lived with them for a while, I can tell you that apart from the wierd braking pattern of the Dectane, it looks much closer to gen2 (if not identical, bar the kink at the bottom of the .2 light). The Rotec is an interesting design, but far from the gen2 style.

Well...my source for the lights working with the resistors is me - they work great. If you'll search around there have been other posts where folks have installed without resistors and reported no problems. IIRC, it was the 07 model year that usually needed the resistors. Here's a video of the install process and if you look closely you can see the resistor box hanging down.

I am getting the Dectane units as well. Is the only source for these Carlight Pro in Florida?

I believe there are other sources too - Carlight Pro is domestic while Orange is foreign with spotty customer service reported.

Any input on CarlightPro? Are they a good source to deal with? I called them yesterday twice and there was no answer, seems like someone's mobile phone number from their website.

installed my depo/dectane lights yesterday. you do need the resistors to avoid throwing error codes.

they look good
