Default Newbie Looking at This 997TT

Hey guys, been trolling around and itching for a car to add to the collection.

Between this and the GTR, yes from two very different parts of the spectrum. I'm very new to the porsche market as I'm an Fcar kind of guy with the 430 and 599 in the garage now.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this car that I'm scoping. Have a deal in the works but curious if anyone knows the heritage of this one or more importantly if there's something I should be looking for in particular!?

Thanks!

If this is your first entry into the Porsche brand, why not look for an unmodified 911 Turbo S or a GT3?
I would think for 100k+ you would have quite a variety of cars to choose from in the Turbo, GT3 or GTRS line up. Just a thought.

That's a good point, I guess I kind of like the fact that it's has a few mods done. So the recco for a first time P-owner is to go un modded and make sure she's clean running before starting, if at all...

I know it's not a practical use of the rear seats but I'd like to use it for taking my boys up to cars and coffee every now and then. The GTs don't offer any such back seat that I'm aware of.

I suggest you test drive an 07~11 911 Turbo if you haven't already and see how you like the car. The back seats are fine for little kids assuming they are under 10. I would be interested to hear how you like it compared to the F cars. My neighbor had an F430 until he drove my TT and bought a new 911 that week. Of course that was just him and he has something new in his driveway every year or so. Happy hunting

Yeah, my F430 is manual so it's the last of that generation. The 599 is break your back speed! I'll have to go and spin around in the TT, as I've only seen them, never even sat in one!

Boys are 1 and 2 so they'll be mashed up in a car seat of sorts :-)

Do you think the one that I'm scoping is priced well?

If it was me for 100k I would get a CPO warranty and something like new. I can't say for sure about the value of a modded car, another rennister will have to comment on that. I think you will be pretty impressed with a newer TT. You can check the porsche web site for inventory and availability across the country.

Really appreciate your fast responses! Will look for another person to chime in on the mods and the "value" of them.

When you say "newer" what years are you alluding to?

07 and 08 have older electronics but a well regarded engine. 09, 10 and 11 have a slightly different motor but updated electronics such as nav, sat and i-pod. If you're in the 100k range I would look at 09 and maybe a 2010. Due to the economic crisis probably not many 09 or 10 models produced. If you do a search on the link I sent it will give you a sense of pricing

I'd be really interested to hear what you think of the TT coming from the Ferrari's.. Please post your response when you drive one.. You might want to dricve the 2010 Turbo S with the PDK trans as well..

The 2007 - 2009 TT's have the same engine.

The 2009 got an upgraded PCM that includes Bluetooth, etc.

In 2010, Porsche went to a completely different engine--DFI and wet sump to name a couple of changes. It's sold as having 40% fewer moving parts, or something like that, but more importantly, it is not the evolved racing engine that proved itself over and over beginning with the (964) GT1 three generations ago. Porsche still hasn't put the DFI engine in a race car.

In 2010, they also introduced the PDK tranny in the 911.

So, the usual advice goes, if you want/need the PDK, then get a 2010-, if not, then get a 2009.

True!

Keep in mind the car at Ruf may not have much of a factory warranty at all with all those mods. On the other hand, it has a bunch of cool (and expensive) mods. If that's what you want, I'd say the price is right (yes, you're paying a bit for the mods, but a lot less than doing them yourself).

Porsches are GREAT for younger kids, I take mine everywhere in the TT.

Thanks for the feed guys, keep them coming!!

Does the PCM make that much of a difference? Don't really care about GPS or bluetooth, great creature features but not enough for the swing vote.

An occasional track event is always a plus!

So pull the trigger on the Werks 1?!

The TT is much faster than either your 599 or F430. I have a NA 911 and an F430 and they are very different animals. Wouldn't trade one for the other. There are features of the Porsche that I like better and same for the Ferrari. It's not redundant to have both. Go for it. Good luck.
