I can show you a bunch of 996 mk1 with the crosseyed fried eggs on the face which havent aged well...
I would agree if you're talking 993 turbo or C4S....not so much with a C2 on todays scale. 996tt on its own holds up well imo but agree it shows its age up alongside a 997tt though.

Also saw a silver 996tt on the road a week back and it looked really good ....certainly held it's own given its age. To be honest I was actually quite surprised it looked as good as it did....especially from behind....not that it stayed that way for long . I actually quite like the non enclosed tailpipes.

+1
Much as I loved my 993 C2S, I would probably be much happier with a 997 C2.

The 996 was dated when it was introduced IMO.. Caught between the late 80-early 90's. In PCAR tech time up until a few yrs ago. It looked dated new.. when talking about pcars holding value and lasting the test of time.

Can everyone please assume the 996 is excluded! It's the fat chick & bicycle thing... fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you.

If current 991 Carrera and S stickers are a reliable indicator, base price on the 991 Turbo will be over $160K.

The only problem with the 996.1 was that they completely re-used the front end from the Boxster that was introduced in 1996. Had it received the style of the 996.2 styling update that was released in 2001 then it would have not looked dated. BTW, it was the 01' Turbo that introduced those nice fried egg headlights and looked very modern when it was introduced.

I don't understand the rest of your comments. While would you exclude the 996? The 997.1 Carrera was just a styling exercise with a 997 chassis underneath. While the front end of the 997.1 was an improvement over the 996, I still for one like the 996.2 back end better. Both cars had identical performance figures with the exception of top speed where the 996.2 was actually rated 1 mph higher. It is really amazing that you can buy a nice 996.2 for the price you can today...although prices are actually on the rise right now.

Lol.. 996 widebody and Turbo isn't that bad tho. Agree the 996C2 and C2 cab have aged extremely badly....worse than any porsche made i think.

I'd be ecstatic with 160 for a base 991tt.....in fact make it 300 and i'd be still over the moon.

Don't ever come to Aus and buy a porsche... You'll have a heart attack.

And a 996 C2 having a better looking rear end than 997.1C2? I've heard it all.

Clearly I would take exception to that with my street 2002 X51 and track 2001 H Car. But not offended in any way! Hope to make it to Australia one of these days while I can still paddle a surfboard!

Just bought a 2002 996 Turbo with the X50 package and to me it's gorgeous! I even love the headlights, they look more modern and don't remind me of fried eggs!

More like scrambled eggs!

I love both the 996 and 997TT...but IMO the 997's look better.

Hi everyone,
Well.... I got mine. I ordered one in white, but the guy who ordered before me couldn't make the one he ordered so I got a beauty in Rhodium Silver... Excellent! 'S' too! I talked to Ray at Rotech and he put me on the list for the new Carbon for the rocker panels on the side and the carbon for the outside baffle in the front bumper air intakes.... Can't wait! Time to start slowly 'trimming' the appearance... and I can't wait to get some chrome mesh for the front and side air intakes too....

It's great to start the obsession again.....

Best looking 996 by far... Would totally not mind the headlights. I even think the lights looks great.
