Back in a Porsche! Yahooo!!
Back in oct 2005, I purchased a 2004 996 Speed Yellow GT3. Loved it.
A long time friend of mine had been telling me how awesome a Porsche was - and I being a non-believer flogged him mercilessly with the specs of my 2004 Z06 Corvette. The z06 Corvette is no slouch - and hats off to that car. BUT - it's not a precision scalpel like the GT3 was and is. Once I purchased the GT3 - I became a believer in Porsche and what their cars are like.
In 2008 or so, I sold the GT3 to purchase a 2008 BMW M3. It was time for a little more comfort, 4 seats - and something a little more family like. The BMW M3 had pretty much everything you could want in a coupe. Comfort, Speed, Quietness, and all the dressings you could wish for. Truly a really great car. But, not quite a Porsche.
So - a few days ago, I made the leap to a 2007 Speed Yellow Turbo 997 Porsche. Man - this thing is just fast. I mean so fast, that even as the driver, I feel like I am being thrown back in the seat even when I know I am planting my foot to the floor. WOW!
It's only been a few days (two) - but here is what I can say so far.
I love the tightness of a porsche. Just like sex when you were 18 - you never forget how tight these things are. Just getting back into a porsche, I can really tell what I have been missing in handling. Not that any of the other cars I have owned have been slouches there - but the Porsche just goes to 11.
The stereo in the Turbo makes up for those times when I needed tunes on a long drive in the GT3. (Phoenix to Vegas or SD to Vegas kind of trips). The Turbo is quieter by far than the GT3 and cruising at 80 is very pleasant with a quiet growl of the 6 in the background. The GT3 - the growl was definately in the foreground and I found myself changing gears or speed often to change up the noise on long hauls.
I'll keep you posted as I get a more balanced view of the car as a daily driver.
I wanted to share my happiness at being back into a Porsche yet again.
Porsche - it's been too long baby!
