Default What would you buy..997 turbo or turbo s

Wife has given me the green light to buy my next turbo 911. What would you do..I am looking fort he best car for the best price and to keep it for 3-5 years...

1. 2011 Turbo S: 165K with 2300 miles with meteor gray and very sharp.Original price 185K
2. 2010 Turbo 135K,,probably black on black

Any thoughts?

Are they really so different to substantiate the 30K...? I have never driven a turbo S.

What would have less depreciation in the long term?

Thanks for the comments.

Big difference is PDK... most people in the Bay Area seem to enjoy the convenience of not having a clutch... I do not think the S has a real $30k worth of extras, more the mystique than anything - plus the performance differences can easily be met/surpassed with aftermarket upgrades.

I would personally buy a 6-speed turbo... but that's me.

I was getting $4K to $5K off MSRP from 3 different dealers in SoCal on 2012 Turbo S's. You might want to see if there are any available allotments with your local dealers. Order what you want without any mileage. How many miles on the 2010 Turbo?

A used 2010 PDK Turbo - Black on Black - has been sitting at Rector for 2 months. They were asking $115K but I'm sure they will go lower - it's a one owner local car with 14K miles. They will CPO it for $3K.

I test drove it and it seems to have most options except (nice) seats and PTV.

Good luck!

By convenience, I guess means if you've lost control of your left foot, lost or have reduced or have why-bother-with-hassle of hand/foot/brain coordination syndrome or maybe like braking with left foot.
I tried PDK-Panamera and PDK-boxster for a few days and for a true sports car like the 911 turbo, PDK needs a lot more research for street driving. For racing I guess to avoid panic-driven misshifts, PDK is a must. If I was female, over 70 or under 18 and had to have an auto-shifter, I feel that proven oil-automatic is still better for street than PDK.

"Wife has given me the green light to buy my next turbo 911."

How many Porsches have you owned?

Maybe you should consider a Panamera, considering your 3 small boys will probably no longer fit in the back seat of your 996.

My vote would be the TTS. I'm driving one for the RSR weekend & it's simply stunning.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that the depreciation would be far greater with the regular tt - perhaps even equal to the difference between the two.

Enjoy the search regardless.

Default Update

Looking a Meteor gray TTS, 2011, 2400 miles
Asking 170K

Might be hard to deal on it.

This is my 3rd porsche.

I doubt that a TTS will depreciate any less than a regular turbo. I would think 170k was about what it was new. To shift or not to shift is the question. Shifting mine is 2nd nature to me.

I got a new 2012 tts for about 165 with everything I wanted on it. Make sure you want everything that is on the 185k msrp 2011. It is used and a year old. I faced the same dilemma. I like a manual, but I did like the extra power and extra's on the tts. I am happy with my choice. I can guarantee I wouldn't be nearly as fast and smooth on a track with a manual.

In the end it is a no lose situation.

You should buy this 2009 TT Cab - even less depreciation, last of the GT1 black, 6 speed, sport shift, limited slip etc.. All the good performance options and a few nice things as well like ventillated seats and illuminated SS door seals. 5k miles, $119k

I owned an 09 TT Cab (6-Speed), now own a 11 TTS Cab. Last week I drove an 11 TT Coupe 6-speed. The TTS isn't a little quicker, isn't a little better, and doesn't have a little nicer sound. the TTS is WAY faster, crisper, sharper, and louder. I was blown away by the difference especially driving them back to back. A friend of mine was just with Porsche doing some testing on the new 918 and he drove several cars on Porsche test track. He too could not believe the difference in the TTS. Porsche did a whole lot more to the TTS then they are letting on IMHO. Drive the two back to back and then tell me the difference is not night and day. BTW, the 11 TT Coupe I drove did have most of the options except for PCCBs.

+1 for the TurboS depending on you tolerance for a steep depreciation curve.

With all due respect to the "all hail the Mezger" and "real sports cars have 3 pedals" Luddites, the TurboS is a BIG improvement in performance as delivered from the factory compared to the 997.1tt cars. Just make sure you hit the sport button before you test drive it.

I am a member of the real race cars have sequential dog boxes with no lift shifting club. The pdk in sport mode replicates this without all the care and feeding of a race box. Unlike your x50, you won't have to wait out the turbo lag with every up shift. Full boost the instant you upshift. Drivability off boost around town is also significantly better with the higher compression dfi motor compared with a modded x50. My first porsche was GIAC ecu/fabspeed exhaust x50. The 997tts eats it's lunch.
My $0.02 fwiw.

If you have the dough the turbo S is the way to go. There are great deals starting to pop up on used cars.
