2010 911 Turbo PDK- Not Loving It
Ok. I've had my 911 Turbo PDK for a week. Loved the build, PCCB, LSD and PVT, Adaptive sport seats.
The car is insanely fast. PDK works well, the no loss of boost keeps things linear (somewhat). But regardless of what I've read, there is turbo lag and you can catch the engine off boost and have to gauge the rush esp. in corners.
The handling is soft. The front end steering is quite numb. The turbo has a bit of float on the highway. Sport suspension setting is more jarring that glued to the ground.
I previously had a Boxster RS60- the car with the original sport PASM suspension and it handled perfectly (for the road)- neutral, no body roll, no dip or squat with braking or acceleration.
So I'm deciding
1) whether to keep the turbo, maybe modify the suspension and exhaust.
2) Go for a GT3 or GT3 RS- the handling is there, but the clutch is a bear for a daily, IMHO.
3) Do the Boxster Spyder- but the top is a joke and the suspension while sporty isn't as forgiving as the sport PASM of my RS60.
4) Cayman R- same thing goes for this as the Boxster.
I don't want to do another Boxster S. A Cayman R (with PASM) would be great but not available.
I've owned enough cars to know when it's time to get something different. I'm upset that I didn't love the turbo, but glad I had the chance to experience it.
Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

Drifting
Having owned several 911's I suggest you give it more than one week to draw any conclusions and decide to sell the car. Besides taking a huge loss on the car I think over time you will have a different opinion. I've driven mine at a number of tracks at triple digit speeds and just over 21,000 miles over quite a variety of roads and don't feel the suspension was soft. The sport mode sure tightens things up in the right conditions. Give it at least a few thousand miles and then decide. Just my .02

Get an alignment first. Just doing that can help a lot.

Oh Man !?...just as I was considering moving into a 2011 Turbo from my O9 C4S...It'll be a DD...25K mi/yr. Do I need to consider these mods to enjoy it? Whats up with Porsche engineering?

just replaced .1gt3 with gtr and i know what you mean about turbo lag and poor sound quality. just the price you have to pay for a sub 3 sec 0-60. im happy with suspension but considering exhaust soon.

It's odd. Like alot of folks, the 911 Turbo was up on my wall as a kid, next to kelly lebrock and my Public Enemy poster. It was supposed to be all that...and no disrespect to anyone, but it just isn't.
There is lag. It can be minimized by going down a gear, but it's there. That little pulse you get from plantar-flexing your foot a bit just isn't there. It pulls, but the delicacy isn't there. The car reminds me of my AMG E55 in but with more lag. It's minimal lag but it's there.
The handling can be addressed, I knew I'd give up some steering feel with the AWD also.
It's a great commuter car and it's fast, it just not fun (for me at least).
I'm not sure if something is lost with the PDK as well.
I miss matching revs on down shifts, miss the delicate balance of my RS60 with the original sport pasm.
Yet the new Cayman R doesn't offer PASM so it's out.
The GT3 or GT3 RS is nice and I'm leaning in that direction now, but part of me thinks it's the midengined layout that provides that perfect, neutral handling.
Considered Ferrari offerings but not great DD, may look at the R8 but unless it's the V10, why bother? Lambo Gallardo is actually great, but the e-gear is worse than SMG and as a DD, not ideal.

+1 on Cannga's writeup. Grab a beer or three....it's quite a ride.

I also read somewhere that someone replaced his exhaust with a europipe and that made his transmission perform better. I cant remember if it was PDK or Tip. I will try to find that post and link it here
