Default DME Overrev Report

Guys

Looking at a 07 turbo with DME showing the following.

Range 1 213 82 hrs
Range 2 19 82 hrs
Range 3 1 41 hrs
Range 4 1 41 hrs

Should I be concerned?

Yes. Range 4 is a no-no. Range 1 and 2 are fine. How many hours are on the car now?

i wouldn't be concerned too much . . .

The DME report shows single ignition count in ranges 3 and 4. As it takes 3 ignitions per single engine revolution. To log 1 ignition is nearly impossible to do and usually considered to be a DME glitch. Besides, this occurred 41 hours into the engine's live, hopefully long-long time ago . . .

Engine now has 83 hours. The range 1 and 2 were done at the dealer!

Just noticed . . .

The 07 TT DME should show ignition counts in Ranges 1-6, not 1-4 as you've posted.

Didi the dealer provide you with full DME readout report?

Yes, no over rev in 5 and 6. Also only shows a rev count in range 3 and 4, this has to be a glitch. This leave over revs to range 1 and 2. With only 19 ignitions in 2.

This DME report is clean as whistle. With report like this car was a garage queen, IMHO

Agree, first owner did a great job. Over revs were done by the dealer. If you look at over rev duration it probably happened by a dealer jockey revving the car at idle to impress his buddies.....

How do you get an over-rev?
Isnt it strictly from downshifts?

I didn't think you would get one from bouncing off the rev limiter.

If you bounce off the rev limiter you'll get at least a reading in range 1 maybe even a range 2 depending on how aggressive you were driving. The rev limiter doesn't stop the engine at exactly 6700 rpms (or whatever the limit), engine inertia can carry you above that number and record an overrev.

You will get range #1 and #2 from hitting the rev limiter. Don't know if you can get range #3 from hitting rev limiter, on the way up.

The rev limiter does not protect against a missed shift, as you stated. The rev limiter also does NOT protect the engine when spun in the opposite direction, namely when spun. Most people forget this potential condition.

Then I would have to say Range 1, 2 on the DME over rev reports must be commons as dirt.
Its ridiculously easy to bounce off the rev limiter in 1st gear.

Easy? Yes, if you're not paying attention. Very little gained by grabbibg the last couple hundred RPM's. Good? Not really.
