Default High Rev at Startup - Anyone Experience This?

I recall others having this problem, but I can't seem to find the threads.

Has anyone else had intermittent high-revving startups when the engine is cold?

It happens occasionally on my 2007 Turbo (GIAC, AWE exhaust, nothing else)--just revs to about 2500 just at startup but comes back down to 1000 or so within a second'ish.

Mine does it too, have read that it is normal.
Happen between every 5-10 start, have never looked at how high it revs before settling down.

Could it be to warm up the cats immediately?

There was a thread on this a while back, either here or one of the other forums. The consensus is that is does occur intermittently, some cars more often than others. Regardless of whether it is an issue with different cars, different software, different driving styles, or something else, the consensus was it is normal common and no big deal.

yes quite common. Stephen at Imagine Auto told me it was possibly a defective coolant temp sensor. It tells the ECu the wrong engine temp and the Ecu adds too much fuel at startup

Mine does it about every tenth start, very annoying on an ice cold engine.

Mine does it about once a week. It's my daily driver so once out of every 30-40 times is no big deal.

It happed to me again last night warm start and this morning cold start.

InTheAir, this time I looked and the rpm was close to 3K before coming down.

It is annoying and not good on a cold engine.

Anyone ever figure out cause/fix ?

Whenever it seems like it's taking more than 3-4 clicks of the starter motor return the key to the off position and restart it, that's the only way to avoid it. I noticed it only does it when the starter motor really turns over a bunch.
it's gotta be horrible for the engine, good thing it's a dry sump.

It happened to me again this morning, although this afternoon it was fine. Very annoying and, I agree, it can't be good for the engine.

Very odd. This happens in both stock and modified ECUs?
