Default Random USB cable in glovebox....

I have an 07 997TT and have a USB cable in my glovebox. It's connected to something behind the glovebox but I am not sure what.
So, I have 2 questions for this forumn:
1. Anyone else have this USB cable in their glove box and what is it good for?
and...
2. Is the sport chrono "good enough" to record track times and other car info (GPS enabled) on the track?

Thanks!

Hmm. That's a head scratcher. Must be for an MP3 type device. Sure it's not an iPod connection and not a USB?

Are you the first owner? There shouldn't be any USB cables there as far as I am aware...

It being an '07, probably not the first owner. That or he's never looked in the glove compartment for 2 years

Q2: The sport chrono is NOT a good lap timer. The stalk has to be pulled to click off lap times and if you're at speed on the track this is not a very safe thing to be doing. It is also ridiculously inaccurate since it depends on your reaction time. It is not a GPS based device.

I never thought twice about the USB cable in the glove box until I started tracking my car this year. I just figured it had something to do with the onboard computer.

Thanks for the response about the sport chrono system. I agree it will be inaccurate and a pain to hit the column lever to set laps.

There is some gps based device that the OG Racing store had for 1k I may pick up this weekend.

The shop my car is in said it may be the cable that allow the download from the onboard computer. I didn't find anything in the manual...

Thanks all.
