It will be interesting to see what (if any) effect the unveiling of the 2010 997TT on 9/16 at the Frankfurt auto show will have on the '07-'09 prices.

I was waiting until they released details on '10 997 turbo. I don't care for the PDK and the new engine, so ended up getting one of the last '09s. I believe upcoming lease returns will affect retail greater than introduction of the '10.

What should I specify when I have the PPI done? Will a PPI normally reveal any fault codes from the Motronic system or do I have to specifically request a readout?

Thanks,

Andy

I would look for one that is bone stock, one owner, low miles.
That being said, some minor mods are not the end of the world, but should be reflected in a lower price.

Thanks Chris - always appreciate your feedback! That's what I hope to find - stock, one owner, low miles (and lovingly cared for!).

I have to disagree with docjackson1. I am selling every turbo i can get my hands on. 2007's I am getting anywhere between 95-100k pre owned with low miles..(under 10k). It comes down to condition and options.

I checked Mannheim last Saturday and saw two '07 997TT's with less than 10k miles. Mannheim average on both was $84k

That's about what I was expecting. I've watched inventory (2007-2008 under $115,000 on Autotrader) rise from 119 to 152 in about the past month or so. With fall approaching and many more 2007s coming off lease in the coming months I expect continued downward pressure on prices.

What is it that makes a 2010 unappealing? Purportedly, HP up to 500 from 480, 0-60 down to 3.2 from 3.7, paddle shift PDK.

I believe the most obvious change is the engine. Leaving a time-tested, race-proven GT1 block for the basic 997 block beefed up for the power, it's a different (and perhaps weaker) animal in some eyes.

20hp can be easily gained in the '07-'09 units with a few minor mods, so having 500hp is not enticing to most purists to just dump the GT1 and go with this new block.

Search the board, you'll find other reasons.

I took 7 months to locate my Turbo. Time is on your side. I ended up with a 2007 Turbo with less than 2000 miles on it with a sticker of 141K and loaded with nice options including GT Silver paint, deviated stitching, Sport Chrono, painted seat backs, painted rockers, etc, painted center console, illuminated door sills, thicker steering wheel and more. Paid 93K and felt good about it since it looks and smells brand new. There are deals out there as long as you are patient. I rather pay a little more to get exactly what you want and for a mint condition car. Can't always go by auction prices because most of those cars are lease returns and have not been pampered or well cared for. Enjoy the hunt

Ditto on auction prices, those are the bottom dollar deals that secondary feeders are paying after the p dealers pass and send the car to auction. An 'average condition' car at auction represents an average used car with average wear/tear/miles. These are in very rough condition, dings and all, not what the average turbo buyer is looking to acquire. I've bought and sold many a car at auction, not exactly dreamcars, remember these auctions are not Barret-Jackson.
Find the best stone cold stocker you can with low miles and desirable options, make an offer and drive it off.
Don't make the mistake of getting cought up with auction prices when evaluating a car. The car for 93k that '997turbo' bought (I'm sure) is a whole lot nicer than the average 84k auction car at Manheim, enough to justify the 10k delta.

997Turbo and TT Surgeon - thanks for your feedback, that really helps me. I need help in learning the value of patience, especially when I'm going to spend $90+ on my next car! I've waited this long to save up enough cash to buy, I need to make sure I spend it on a great car, not something I'll regret.

Thanks again!

Andy

I need some opinions on adaptive sport seats vs the standard seats (or supple leather). How big of a deal is the seat choice? I don't plan to track the car. I've seen a few really nice examples, but they had supple leather seats so I passed, but this weekend I sat in a car with supple leather seats and I thought they were OK. Are the adaptive sport seats a must-have if I don't plan to track the car?

Thanks,

Andy

I finally bought my 997TT today, a dream come true!

It's a 2007 with all the options I was looking for (PCCB, sport chrono, adaptive sport seats, colors that I liked, etc), and while I paid more than I was hoping, I feel great that I found the car that has everything I wanted with very low miles (2,500). I looked at a 2010 with all the options that I just bought, and that would have cost me $150,000 so the way I justify that I paid more than I had planned is that I saved more than $50.000!

I have to fly to the east coast to pick up the car and will drive it back to California, and I'll document my trip with lots of photos. Unfortunately I'm so busy at work right now I won't be able to pick up the car for a couple of weeks. But I'll post photos as soon as I pick up the car!

Thanks for everyone's expertise on helping me choose the right car!

Andy
